Hi girls, I thought I would finally treat you to my birth story!

Well it all started on Friday the 13th - I decided that as I was officially overdue I would get out and about and took my mum shopping to a large Asda. After walking round for a bit I felt lots of pressure down low and was uncomfortable and after an hour said to mum I needed to go home.

Once home I had a rest but still felt waves of discomfort but no pain. Later that evening I noticed some mucus plug that I got increasingly more of during the evening.
About 1.30am I was restless and unsettled and noticed that the discomfort in my lower tummy was every 5 mins so started timing them just in case but as I had no pain didnt think too much of it. About 4.30am my husband woke up for the toilet and I said to him I thought I might be starting labour. We woke mum up just after 5 to ask her opinion - she got me to time them and they were every 3 mins by then. So decided to have a bath and get clean just in case something was happening.
About 7am my mum insisted I rang the labour ward as the waves were every 3min lasting 1 and a half mins. The midwife asked if I was in pain and I said no so she said wait another hour and see if they intensify then we'll know if it is anything.
So I stuck the tens machine on a low setting and waited till 9.30 to ring back. By this point I'd had a bloody show and was sure the discomfort was contractions as they stung a bit and were lasting nearly 2mins every 2 mins! Phoned labour ward and they insisted I came and be checked out. So we packed the car and got my dad to drop us down to the hospital but asked him to stay in case I got sent home - I think I might of been in denial that I was in labour due to no pain!
So went triage and midwife did an internal - a bit uncomfortable but not painful. She asked me if this was my first baby and I said yes so she said well you've done well to get this far on your own - your 8cms!
The shock was unbelievable as I knew I would have my baby soon.
So off we trotted to delivery suite where my midwife asked me to pretend that I was at least in some pain other wise they wouldn't believe that I was in labour!
I was lucky to get the pool room and set about meeting my midwife (student) and a qualified midwife. They thought I would be an interesting labour as they think it was a silent labour so good practice for students! So I spent an hour bouncing on a ball eating crisps and chatting with my husband and mum and dad and decided I would get in the pool about 12 and dad would go home. They offered gas and air but didn't see the point as I wasn't in pain.
The pool was lovely but had to take my tens off which was a shame as I was enjoying it! I stayed in the pool till 2 occasionally getting out for a wee and a mooch about but apart from a bit more pressure still no real pain. So they decided to do an internal and break my waters. I was now 9cm and they broke my waters which I didn't really feel. They noticed some light baby poo in my waters so suggested I get monitored for half an hour. I went to another room and layed on my side on the bed with the straps around my tummy to monitor our heartbeats but after a while this was difficult as baby kept moving and was difficult to trace so they put the monitor on top of babies head and said I was fully dilated and could push whenever I had the urge. I got on to all fours soon after this and started feeling small urges to push so used some gas and air and went with it! My midwife asked after a while if I wanted to try the birthing stool as we had discussed it earlier so I got up and sat on the stool - found moving difficult as was mid push when trying to get comfy and they took away the gas and air as they felt I managed better without it. My husband sat behind me on a rocking chair and every time I pushed he would rock against me which really helped.
When I started to feel his head the midwives suggested getting on all fours but I really didn't want to move at this point so just ignored them and pushed with all my might and 4 pushes later he was born!
My husband told me he was a boy as we had been team yellow and told me he had a big willy!
My mum sat in front so was able to see him being born and was in tears! The midwives couldn't believe how much hair he had!
Anyway I had planned on natural delivery of the placenta but I'd had too much blood loss so I had the injection. I had a second degree tear so a few stitches - I found the local anaesthetic the most painful part!

I was told I could go home soon after so started to get organised with a bath and this is where it all went a bit wrong! I felt light headed trying to stand up after my bath and kept blacking out. My husband rang the emergency bell and after 3 midwives and several attempts they got me out the bath and onto a bed.
Basically they discovered that I'm severely anaemic which led to a few complications and a 2 night stay in hospital.
Billy has been the most perfect baby and had lots of fuss made of him by all the midwives etc. we've had feeding issues where he couldnt suck so breast feeding has been really difficult so I'm now expressing but getting daily help from maternity assistants at home to help and support me and Billy now drinks from bottles rather than syringes.

Anyway if you've managed to read all my ramblings I'm very impressed!

So to summarise I am totally in love with my little man and thank him everyday for an easy pregnancy and amazing birth!
I will say I have a very low pain threshold and had planned on an epidural!
