Hey guys, I picked up my mum to be emmas diary pack yesterday and it has a leaflet in it about babycare tens machines for hire and to buy.

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience of a tens machine, if they are worth getting etc

I know its a bit early for me, but the leaflet got me thinking about it :)

I used one when in early labour.. im not sure it really made that much difference to the pain but it distracted me cos i was always playing with it or putting it on others to scare them lol... Ive heard alot of good about them though and Im hopefully going to use one again this time. My local midwifery unit loaned me one for free so check that out... they gave it 2 weeks before my due date until i had baby.

I hired a mama tens and i thought it was brilliant. It probably is more of a distraction than pain relief but i dont think i would have made it through the night without it, i was induced on the maternity ward so OH was sent home and it gave me something to focus on while i was labouring on my own. I know they dont work for everyone tho, my sister hated it and had it off after 5 minutes. x

I used mine from the first contraction!! I LOVED it and would recommend it. Eventually my contractions were too intense for it and it was not helping anymore. I used it for a good 80% of my labour. Even if you find it does not take away the pain if gives you another sensation to concentrate on rather than the contraction. I would say you need to use it from the get go to have an effect though xx
