HI

I am considering getting one for labour and just wondered if any of you tried them and thought they helped or not?

Thanks

I had one in my last labour and am deffo using it again this time it worked wonders for me. I have heard a few ppl who weren't stuck n them but I would definitely give it a try

I cant comment about what they are like but can tell you that i ordered mine from mothercare (to hire) and it was delivered yesterday.. looks quite simple to use.

They are good for early labour (and latent labour) and you'll get the most benefit using it as soon as contractions start and then building up the power on it as the contractions get stronger.

I used one but tbh it wasn't a pain reliever. Its electric pulse acted as a distraction from the pain, didn't take it away. Just gave me something else to think about. I only used about a third of its total power zap wise during contractions and took it off after about 3 hours use as I got in the pool.

I'd use one again for early stages but not later on.

I LOVED my tens machine. I would SO SO recommend one. I found it brilliant for relieving pain. I had a home water birth and managed with just tens then water (can't use both at once) for pain relief.

I had gas and air and used tens before I got in the pool. Tens is good as you have to boost it at the beginning of contractions and turn the boost off at the end of contractions. Gives you something else to think about :)

I used one and it really helped for the early parts. I did have a few hiccups with it as I kept leaning on the dial and turning it upto 10  I also used it once I was in hospital and started gas n air but didnt like using the 2 together as it make me feel confused and I didnt deal very well with the contractions. Plus gas and air is gooooooooooood 8)

They are really good, I had just a TENS machine for the first signs of labour (3 hours) and then 10 hours of latent labour before moving on to paracetamol and gas and air.

I would really recommend it! :D

Just make sure you put loads of the jelly stuff on the pads though otherwise it feels like you're being electrocuted not massaged!

I got a tens matchine and its was great for early labour but it didnt do much from the middle on wards but it kept my mind ocupied as when contractions came i had to press boost

I used a TENS and I think it helped a bit. I had contractions on top of each other and I liked to turn it up high when one was was finishing and the other was brewing. I couldnt bear it on high at the height of my contraction though, as it was just too much, and I needed all my concentration to deal with the pain rather than the pulses of the TENS.

Also, I held out on using it for the first 24 hours cos I thought the longer I left it, the better chance I had of getting max effect. Not the case! So I would recommend you use it quite low for early labour and then boost it up when you need it later.

It is definitely worth a try. Hope this helps. x
