When i was 3 months pregnant i got a job (without telling them i am pregs) and because i was about 3 credits off having paid enough tax in the system i not entitled to maternity benefits :x i want to work right up until i am 8 1/2 months gone. Anyhow i am now nearing 4 months and because i have a rather flabby belly anyway i havent actually started to show so i have been able to get away with this. But i have a midwife app. coming up and my 20 week scan and ideally i would like to tell them before. I was considering waiting till the beginning of july and just saying something like, i just found out i am pregnant and im having a scan on the 24th to see how far gone i am. Is this an unbelivable story? Obv. i am going to come back saying, oh by the way im 5 months and its a boy/girl. I REALLY dont want them to think i lied as a. i REALLY like this job and b. I would like to go back to it afterwards if it was possible. Its a really small firm i.e 4 of us and they created the job for me and they could easily get someone in temping. Now what i really want to no is how the hell to word it! Also i dont want them to come up with some other crappy reason for sacking me as im on a 6 month probation. Any help would be really appricated girls!

I'd tell them as soon as possible. I started my new job end of last May. But i found out i was 15 weeks pregnant in September, so got pregnant in June. I was also on a 6 month probation and turns out they were ok about it. I thought they'd find a reason to sack me as i was pretty bad at my job! I'd sneaked off to my 1st scan and when i found out everything with the baby was ok i told them. They'd already guessed though.
I have my full maternity leave, and my job waiting for me when i'm ready. I left end of March which means i'd only been there 10 months in total.

You may find they are really ok with it. There's only 1 way to find out really.

Unless they can come up with a genuine work reason they couldn't sack you (I don't think - I don't know how the probation thing works).
You could tell them the truth with smatterings of little white lies that you couldn't get caught out on - that you really wanted the job, it was too good an opportunity to pass up, you knew you were pregnant but it was so early there was still a big risk of miscarriage and you weren't ready to announce (perhaps claim you thought you were 8 weeks rather than 12), you intend going back as you love the job, you hope they understand.

You are not entitled to money from the company as you have to have started before you were pregnant (it is more officially worded than that to do with weeks before estimated due date but the essence is that you have to have been employed with them before being pregnant). You are entitled to unpaid maternity leave - up to a year, with it being your decision when you stop work and when you go back. You will hopefully be entitled to Maternity Allowance as to get that you have to have been employed for 26 weeks (6months) out of the last 66 weeks (3 and a half years) before your baby is born. As you will have worked for the company for five and a half months by the time you go on maternity leave, if you have worked for 2 or 3 weeks in the last 3 years you will be entitled to MA.

Honestly?
Tell them as late as possible, no they can't sack you for being directly pregnant but they still can get rid of you or find ways to...

Thats what my company have done to me and now im having to troul through crap, appeals, etc to get them to realise they werent able to...
