OH thinks I'm mad... But I'm 98% sure my 8 week old is starting to cut her first tooth! She's been abit offish for a few days, but she's currently going through a growth spurt and I've got a virus so thought she'd caught that as much as I tried to avoid that happening! She's breastfed, but she's not feeding as she does normally. She feeds for a few minutes then just holds my nipple in her mouth rolling her gums on it. If you lift her on your shoulder she sucks on your neck but if you offer her boob she'll either feed again for a few mind or she'll just hold my nipple in her mouth. She's chewing on her hands and if I put my knuckle in her mouth she just applied pressure to it. She doesn't sleep during the day at all, and all she's done today is sleep. Waking for 20 mins at a time, quick drink, flat out again. I'm sure I can feel something sharp on the top in the middle, OH says he can't but his hands are quite rough and hard due to manual job.

Am I just imagining it and is this just her growth spurt? Or could teething be a possibility? Xx

All of those things sound like regular baby behaviour to me. But if it isn't regular for YOUR baby, then only you will know that ;)

Some babies are born with teeth, and some - like mine - don't get them until really late. So it's perfectly plausible that your lo may be teething already!

Also, some babies don't show "normal" signs of teething. My daughter has four teeth and two of the back ones are just poking through and she hasn't complained once! She's never had red cheeks, excessive dribble, sleepless nights, crying in pain... None of it!

So basically, you know your child best, and if you think she's teething, then she's probably teething! :D

Our baby has been exactly the same since about 6 weeks and still not progression with his gums. He also soaks two bibs a day with drool. I was adamant he was teething but am.beginning to think he isn't. He also always has his fists in his mouth which makes it tricky.to know if he'shungry sometimes but when he iis hungry he puts his whole hand in his mouth. A little frustrating cos he's really strong and inquisitive but trying to encourage him to touch and feel things is very difficult and he uses his feet to hold things instead.

The problem with teething isn't the tooth coming through the gum, that part's painless.

The problem is that for (weeks/months) before the tooth comes through, they're all jiggling around in the jaw. Microscopic movements, rising and falling and settling into position.

These teeny tiny movements cause vibrations up and down the skull bones... Headaches, discomfort... So, babies chew or rub gums on anything they can to try to offset the vibrating.

Poor lil things.

So, in answer to your question... Yes, it's highly possible she's teething, but that unfortunately doesn't mean you're likely to see teeth any time soon xx

Haha just remembered something! Weird how you forget babyhood so fast! Anyway, my daughter was dribbling loads and chewing obsessively on and off for the first year but didn't get a tooth until 13 months. She never got upset though. And since her teeth have been coming though she's been normal! Odd, haha ;)
