Hi all

I'm having a little girl in April and am quite keen, although not dead set, on the name Sydney.

Just wondered what peoples thoughts were as I know it'll be one that gets some funny faces lol.

I like that I've never heard anyone called it and it's old fashioned and nice imo. That said, won't be for everyone.

Sadly, I heard it yonks ago as a teeny bopper when watching Scream (main characters name) but my mum likes it and apparently my Nan loved the name.

Don't worry if you hate it, I can take it!

Thanks x

Two women I work with have syndey's
One is 10 and the other is 25!
I have no feelings either way but prefer a girl Sydney than a boy Sidney

Congratulations btw :)

I like the name, it's unusual. Never met anyone with the name. Like above said i prefer it on a girl than a boy.

My daughter is Harper-Rae, again not everyone's cup of tea. I do get odd looks when people ask her name but I don't mind. I love it and it really suits her. X

Oh I love this name! When i was young i sude to watch "Melrose Place' soap opera)) there was Sydney) I liked her name and still like it! very nice choice)

It used to be a very popular name for girls - probably 10ish years ago. Not so much now though. I neither love it nor dislike it. If you love it, go for it. She will be your daughter and I've definitely heard worse. Truely-Pearl for example.

I know someone that called her daughter Sydney but she spelt it with a C and my grandad is called Sidney :) x

I actually really like it, it's unique without being too weird or "out there"

X

Thanks ladies. Appreciate your thoughts. Interesting to know was popular a decade or so ago. Wonder if was because of Scream.

A few people I've told have recently heard of babies called it which puts me off a little but I still think there (hopefully) won't be many where I live. That said, I thought the same with my son Brody and there are now loads!

I don't know of any other Sydney than the Scream character :) I think it is a lovely name! X

My husband's grandpa was called Sydney. Really lovely name that is traditional yet different :)
