Well we're home :dance: and thank God I couldn't stick it in that place much longer! Sydnee was born at 5.49am on Thursday 2nd October weighing 5lbs7.5oz and we came home on saturday 4th, so not too longer stay.

The story;

As I'd posted, I'd been having pains since the sunday evening, however just as quickly as they'd form a pattern or become regular they'd tail off, so no one wanted to know really. I began thinking that I must be the worlds biggest wimp as they were getting quite unbearable. I managed (God knows how) until the wednesday, when I was booked in for induction anyway and just after 7pm set off to the hospital where I had to be at 8pm.

I got to the hospital and they set up the trace to monitor us for an hour or so before administering the prostin, and low and behold contractions were showing up, just what I'd been telling the staff for over three days :wall: they were registering as strong and as close as three minutes apart.

They continued to monitor me and it was noted that everytime I had a contraction LO's heartrate dipped. They decided to continue monitoring for a while and as there was no change, with either the contractions or Sydnee's heartrate they sent for the doctor. The doctor ordered more monitoring, said he couldn't give me any gel as I was already having contractions and disappeared. An hour later there was still no change and I was given an internal, but I wasn't dialated and still quite far round so it wasn't looking too promising, I was then sent down to the labour ward.

Down on the labour ward I was in quite a lot of pain, hooked up to the trace and pretty much left to it. My contractions were getting stronger and I was thankful that I'd been a wimp and kicked up a fuss when they tried to send OH home shortly after our arrival. Every now and then a mdwife would pop in and check the printout, say baby wasn't too happy and tootle off again. Sometimes she'd bring the doctors in with her who'd mutter bits and bobs and off they'd go too. I was told to hit the call button if her heartbeat dipped below 100, which it did, frequently. By 2am Sydnee's heatrate was dipping to 60 with each contraction, which were so intense I was sliding around the bed. I tried hopping off the bed and standing and rocking through them, but the pain just wouldn't ease, they were lasting well over a minute each as well and I was getting in a state by this point.

The doctors returned, another internal showed I was slightly dilated, but less than a cm. They decided to try and break my waters anyway, and gave me some G&A and told me to 'do nothing but draw on it'...I hated the G&A, it made me feel sick and dizzy but everytime I stopped breathing it I got told to keep sucking. I can vaguely remember an intense pain as he struggled to get the amniohook through my closed cervix, then the G&A eally hit, and everyone sounded echoey and far away. The clock seemed to be spinning and I hated it. I think then I was moved to another room, and had an epidural as I couldn't cope with the contractions anymore. Instant relief but I could still move my legs-I could feel the contractions, but they felt more of a pressure than a pain. I had another internal and was about a cm, there was about a fingertips width dilation, and since Sydnee's heartrate was still erratic-she'd cope quite well with a few in a row then suddenly drop to 60, the midwife decided to have a go at my waters and eventually managed to break them, but they were green :?

Shortly afterwards Sydnee was getting even more distressed and the next thing I knew the MW was pulling the emergency cord and the doctors rushed in, and then it was all go for an emergency section. They took my OH off to put scrubs on and put a catheter in me, then off we went to theatre.

In theatre I had my epidural topped up and they kept testing me with cold spray to see if it had kicked in, but I was getting a bit worried as I wasn't sure what was cold and what was just feeling-when the dosage is right you can feel the pressure of the spray but not the temperature. I was also asked what I could feel on my stomach, to which I replied I thought it was someone poking me, but it was someone pinching me with big tweezer things. I was ready.

It was the weirdest feeling in the world, the C-section, as you can feel everything, but are numb and feel no pain. I felt them cutting me, rummaging around, then a tremendous pressure on my ribs as though someone was repeated pressing them bearing their weight, a tugging down below and started feeling a bit sick, as there was a big metal thing on the roof that reflected everything they were doing and when I noticed it made me a bit freaked out knowing they were MY insides! I was looking away towards the monitors on my left, my OH was sat by head on the right and all of a sudden he started saying "she's out, she's out!" And she was soooooo noisy in her protests! She was very purple but absolutely fine, and after being wrapped up she was handed to her Daddy who showed her to me. Then off she went with Daddy to be cleaned up and dressed while I was stitched up, and an hour later I joined them. I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get to hold her immediately but after all of the dramas I was just pleased that she was ok. I must say it was the single most terrifying experience of my life, and I didn't realise just how much I loved my unborn baby until it was all going wrong.

I'm sure there's loads more that I've missed, but it was quite surreal, going in for an induction at 8pm and having an emergency section, I'm lucky I was booked for the induction at term+9, rather than the standard term+12, or the outcome may have been totally different. The doctors said that her head was very low down and every contraction caused pressure, which she didn't like, and she was squeezing the cord, causing the distress. I have no idea how long she'd been like it, as my contractions began three days previous, but I think we were very lucky.

Here's a few pictures, I've had to add the links rather than a direct pic as my OH has plastered his car and motorbike forums with pictures and if I resize them to post them then I think it'll disrupt his hosting. Not sure but just in case...He is a very proud Daddy and keen to show off his princess!!
