Well after a lifetime of smelly, runny poos and "reflux", we decided to try switching our son's milk. The nursery mentioned his poos not being normal. Awfully, we hadn't really taken much notice of his poo, we were more concerned about his sickness. He's also had a very slight wheeze since he was a few weeks old.

Anyhow, we switched from a cow's milk based formula to soya formula and within a day his poos were normal. No sickness and I keep listening out for the wheeze, but it seems to be gone too. What's bothering me is that he now seems to be straining more (I guess he's never had to pass formed stool before, so perhaps it's just that it's a new feeling) and that the poos seem to be getting firmer. Do you think it'll take a while for his body to get used to the new milk?

It usually takes a couple of weeks for baby to get used to the change of powder, persevere with it and see how he goes. If he ends up constipated it might be worth getting advice from GP though. How old is he? I switched my daughter to normal milk at a year so you could always try switching him from formula to proper soya milk or something if you don't want to give him cows milk?

He's 15 months. We originally switched him from formula to cow's milk at a year old and he had chronic diarrhoea, so switched back to formula. I'm not a massive fan of soya milk in general. I'd put off trying him on it as I hadn't heard anything good about it, but finally went ahead this week. I'll give him a couple of weeks before trying anything else.

We had our milk changed by the doctor at 6 weeks old. milk and soya free. It can take up to 2 weeks for any dairy etc to leave the system completely.

They do strain more with normal poops, the amount of bright red purple faces my boy pulls lol!

Norovirus at the mo so havnt seen it in a while mind!.. It should be find =) Just check their not just tiny balls etc, as it could be a bit of constipation. although I find that usually passes quick too x
