Sunbathing/overheating

Thanks FrecklesMcGee :)
The problem is that I think my temp did increase on a couple of occasions...

Niknak thanks so much for your input! I'm having a really bad anxious day and reading your story really lifted my spirits:)
I'm also expecting a boy and would love for him to be an opinionated 2 year old one day:)
Thanks again for putting a smile on my face :)

You might not be saying that if you had had the morning I have with him insisting on calling me Nicola rather than mummy! Got to love a two year old!
I really wouldn't worry hun, I know its sometimes easier said than done but you can get a bug or cold when you are preggers which comes with a temperature so your body temp rises and the baby is fine - your body will do everything it can to protect the baby, even if that means you suffer! x

Lol that sounds great! That's exactly the type of smarty-pants little boy i am hoping for:)

Unfortunately another rather anxious day so I keep reading this thread over and it helps. Luckily I have an assessment for CBT on Tuesday, it's NHS though so no idea how long it will take to refer me! I have a fear of having a special needs child, I always have and this has just given a "valid in my eyes" reason to be scared. I have anxiety and depression problems and I just know I wouldn't be able to cope, spoke with DH about it once and he fears for my life shall my worries come true.

I keep reasoning with myself and hoping for the best, especially when reading other mums stories.

Managua, I had my booking in appointment yesterday with my midwife and I asked her about sunbathing / overheating. I was in Tenerife between 5 and 6 weeks pregnant and whilst I was sensible with suncream etc. I did lie out in the sun and did get slightly burnt a couple of times so wanted to check if that would have mattered.
They told me not to worry and I was fine - they said being pregnant you obviously overheat easier and that's harder to control when you're in the sunshine and also said your skin changes so it may be that you burn easier etc.
Anyway - i had been a bit worried about it and so just wanted to try and pass on some of the reassurance I got from my midwives (I had 2 as there was a student there as well) that they sort of laughed at me (in a kind way) when I asked the question and said I really didn't need to worry. x

Hi Taboo917, thanks for sharing :) I keep looking at the posts in this thread when I start worrying about it again.
My midwife was of similar opinion but somehow I just didn't find her convincing, she couldn't give me much of a logical explanation. If we overheat easier pregnant, then how could it be fine if we know increased temperatures are not good for the baby, e.g. Fevers? Thats the kind of questions I was asking and she seemed rather confused. The private obstetrician I saw was much better, she told me that body temperature wouldn't increase that much in the sun, that the body regulates temperature very well and that I would feel ill had I really overheated. That still left me with some doubt but was miles better than my midwife! I'm glad you found a good midwife:) I might have to change mine I think. anyway the biggest reassurance I found comes from all the mums who shared their experiences and went on to have healthy children :) I'm sure we're not the first ones to sunbathe in 1st trimester, nor the last ones!
I still have quite a bit of anxiety about this, intrusive thoughts etc. like I say I read this thread when I need it and start hypnotherapy tomorrow as want to be calm and relaxed for the baby.
Big hugs, I'm sure we will be fine:)
