Hi everyone, I'm new here so not quite sure how it works yet (hopefully i'll manage to post this okay) :eh:
I'm nearly 15w pregnant with my first baby, on 4th May I began bleeding very heavily with small clots...the next day I went to A+E where they told me that my cervix was closed and bleeding is normal in early pregnancy and to come back if it got worse, they wouldnt scan me as apparantly there were no sonographers due to bank holiday, bleeding got slightly worse over night then began to clear up over the next day or 2 but I couldnt stop worrying so I went to my GP on the 8th who referred me for a scan on the 9th...The scan showed that baby was fine but I had a subchorionic hemorrhage that measured about 2cmx3cmx3cm, the lady reassured me that it didnt add any extra risks etc and I went home quite happy that baby was okay, however i then had a routine appointment with a consultant on the 13th (due to high BMI - they just take blood pressure etc) where the lady mentioned that she could see by my notes that 'something had gone wrong' in my uterus and implied that I had a good chance of miscarrying, she spoke to me as though I had pretty much no chance of the pregnancy carrying on...it was only when another member of staff entered the room that she decided to tell me there was a chance my body could absorb the bleed but at this point i was already in tears and partner was fuming with her over her blunt-ness and she was just so care free about it telling me that it happens all the time and she 'been there, done that' so i left very upset. When I got home i did some research on this type of bleed and it seems it occurs in 1-3% of pregnancys and I was just curious if anyone has had the same thing and how your pregnancy went etc? Thank you and sorry for the long post, I just hope everything goes okay :-( it took me a year to get pregnant and i'm so scared. Steph x

hi steph i dont have any advice but i didnt want to read and run. I hope all is ok, I hate medics for that. There is no need to be so rude and inconsiderate I think they forget just because they deal with it everyday this is our lives.

I had something like that but on my papers it just said something about small seperations of the placenta. I never had external bleeding but it showed up on my scan at 13 weeks. There were two pockets of blood trapped between the placenta and uterine wall. The doctor told me not to worry and acted like it was normal. I think he kind of went to the oposite extreme than your doctor and didn't want to worry us. He only said after we grilled him that it was quite unusual. He did recommend complete rest for 6 weeks with no house work or lifting, which I think was mostly because he didn't know what else to recommend. I did rest until we did a private scan at 16 weeks and the dark areas were still visible but had almost gone so I felt safe to be a bit more active. At 18 weeks it wasn't visible anymore. I spent ages googling it and found it hard to get information about. It is more common later in pregnancy and is also more serious the further along you are. When it happens early on the placenta is still relative small and growing fast so as long as the bleeding gets under control the damaged part just stops growing and the healthy part is able to take over. A few weeks later the placenta has grown so much that it is not significant anymore. The blood is usually reabsorbed by about y weeks later or it can come out as old brown blood. Red blood is a sign that there is fresh bleeding. I never had any more bleeding and the blood was reabsorbed because I never saw it come out. I didn't have any further problems and LO was born healthy 1 year ago.

Hi hun, I could have written your post almost word for word! I have had two lots of really heavy bleeding so far and I'm 12 weeks. It initially measured 49mm x 29mm on my first heavy bleed, then a week later I had another heavy bleed and got scanned (this Monday) and it had increased to 68x21x29mm. I called up my GP and she said she'd try and get me to see a consultant asap and get scanned weekly to check the progress. She ordered me to go on bed rest for two weeks, no lifting, long walks, exercise, sex etc. she also signed me off work for 2 weeks. Hard when I have a lively toddler to also take care of! However my mum has taken care of her in the day and hubby in the evening and I've just literally been in bed all week doing nothing! I had my 12 week scan yesterday and the hematoma has gone down to 39x28! So the rest is definitely working. My work have also suggested when I'm fit enough to return to work, to work 2 days from home.

Another thing, despite my hematoma being huge, no one has said I'll likely miscarry, they all been nothing but supportive and given me all likely outcomes.

Could you do something similar regarding rest? I really believe in the power of resting and taking it easy in these situations.
I can relate to how scary this is, I hope we both have very positive outcomes!
Xxx

Hi all, I'm a newbie, I wanted to join to offer some reassurance to you (altough this post is a couple of months old now). I started bleeding at 7 weeks, it was truely terrifying and I automatically assumed it was all over. Went to the Early Pregnancy Support Unit at my hospital and they scanned and told me I had a SCH. I bled for a week, stopped for two days then started again (week 8) for another week or so. I got told the same, it doesn't increase your chances of miscarriage and your baby will be unaware it's even happening and will be happily snuggling away totally oblivious to your worries! I got told most resolve by 20 weeks and this was the case with me (even if they don't it doesn't cause an issue at birth from what I've been told). I had regular private scans to put my mind at ease. It measured slightly bigger at one point (apparently it can do that by dispersing/changing shape) then started getting smaller. By 18 weeks it had resolved. I'm now 24 weeks today. My midwife told me that theyre actually very common and can show up on scans where the mum has had no external bleeding and actually if they have had no symptoms they rarely even tell them so as not to cause unecessary worry or anxiety. Drink plenty water and keep hydrated, dehydration causes your uterus to contract and can make the bleeding seem worse.

It is so so scary but it seems a lot worse than what it is. I hope you can take some reassurance from my story :) xxx

Hi,
Again I know that this post has been here a while but thought I would share.
I had several bleeds in the early stages, from 8 weeks through to around 16 weeks. These bleeds were heavy, lots of clotting and frightening. First time it happened I was told this was implantation bleeding, even though I wasn't convinced because I had already had this before which had been confirmed by the ivf clinic on my last appointment there before they signed me over. The next time I was told I had seperation in my placenta, and that I may bleed again or my body may absorb it. They couldnt really see where the blood was coming from so I dont think they were really that certain! On my third heavy bleed I was 12 weeks pregnant and went to the assessment clinic, the doctor there was not so helpful, informed me I was having an incomplete miscarriage and that she had removed parts of my pregnancy! Again like you, where I live they do not offer scans at the weekend so had to wait until the monday to be confirmed. When we went for the scan we discovered baby was absolutely fine!!!! Shocked to say the least!! I have had another bleed since then also, each time baby has been fine. My last bleed was around 16weeks, (im now 28+4) my body now seems to have absorbed any further bleeding and settled. This is completely terrifying and I think any bleeding sends fear through you, but it doesn't always mean the worst.
Hopefully things have calmed down for you now.
Hope x
