I had a c section 3 weeks ago and felt like I was recovering ok, but yesterday I noticed for the first time there is a long stitch hanging out from the end! I was going to just cut it but my mum was mortified and said I didn't know what it is attached to lol. Anyone else had this? It has scared me a bit because I can't bare the thought of having to go back into hospital now after such a good recovery.

Not c-section related, but I've cut back stitches before when they've come away. You could always just do that for now and then mention to your HV when you get chance? Obviously don't do anything you're not comfortable with, but it doesn't sound like you were too worried until you saw how your mum reacted. You know best.

Thanks for the reply hon. Hopefully they will say yeah just cut it and it will eventually disappear lol x

Hope it's just a minor thing and you don't need to go back in :( what stitches are they though? Dissolvable; if so should have gone? Or other type; if so arnt they meant to be removed at certain time??

Did the midwife come and remove your stitch on day 6? Mine did, she snipped the bead off and pulled the long stitch out- if she did nd you still have a stitch I would just call the postnatal ward and check!
Good luck x

Thank you ladies. The stitch just disappeared! It was from the inside! I had dissolvable stitches and saw midwife today and apparently it is normal for them to leave an end and for it to just come out. Why no one tells you this before you leave hospital is beyond me. Thank goodness I don't have to go back for anything x

Yep, I had the same. I left mine in until my 6 week check terrified to pull it incase it was attached inside. Doc touched it with tweezers and it just fell out. How it stayed lodged I'll never know!

They never tell you these things do they. Think a new book should be written! x
