STEVE IRWEN

yeah its true, he diced with death everyday! and i didnt really agree with him dangling his newborn baby in front of a croc either..that was stupid!!

I always said to Phil that one day he was gonna get killed with some of the stuff he used to do.
Still it's pretty gutting - not only because he seemed like a really nice guy (if a little cuckoo at times), but for his family aswell. Those poor kids don't have a dad anymore :(

Awww poor Terri and kids :(
Emily absolutley adored him (didnt realise how daft he was :? )
she was eating her brekkie when it was on news this morning, and i really thought she was going to be sick!!
all the colour drained out of her and the bottom
lip went, and it was awful 'cos i had to jolly her up
as i didn't want to send her to school gutted.
Think we are in for a big talk when she gets in.

Awful to say but it had to happen sooner or later but i really thought it would be a croc or a snake
I also used to feel sorry for the animals

I'm very behind i know, but i just found out. Very shocked indeed, cant help feeling awful for his young family.

I thought he was excellent with the animals, and his dedication to them you couldnt fault! May a lesson be learned from it somehow :(

i have only just found out about cos those terrible joke texts are already doing the rounds and i received that and thought oh no thats awful.

i thought he was a great presenter and his enthusiasm was great too, my kids love his program.

its such a shame and his family must be devastated, but they must of half expected something like this with all the danger he puts himself in.

I'm feeling quite gutted about this. It really was a horrible accident, at least if it had been a crocodile you could say it was his fault - last I heard he was swimming along the bottom of the sea and must have brushed over the top of the ray. It would have been hidden, there would have been no way of seeing it.

It's easy to say he put himself into danger but I think he was an extremely talented and intelligent man. If he wasn't, he would have died a long time ago the first time he picked up a snake.

As for the baby incident, he felt there was no danger or he wouldn't have put his month old son into that situation. It's a different culture & he would have done it whether or not the cameras had been there, as his father did to him. He grew up around crocodiles and felt it necessary to bring up his son in a similar way to how he was brought up.

I think it's really sad for the family he leaves behind, but teh same could be said for any father who dies in a tragic accident, no matter what his job.

His wife and Kids weren't even there either :(

They were cintacted at home by his manager!

He had gone to do a documentary and while he was filming the stingray it stuck his tail up and pierced through his heart, they took him back to his vessle and was pronounced dead!

I was only watching him on Amy's DVD, we bought her wiggly safari and it was the wiggles at his austrailian zoo, terri his wife and little Bindi were in it to!

RIP steve

I never used to be a fan of his, I thought the same as some of you that he was tormenting the animals. However I then watched a documentary about him and he was an amazing guy who had the utmost respect for the animals he worked with. He raised the profile of the less cute animals in Oz, like the croc and the snakes and raised awareness. The work he has done for these animals is amazing, and through his zoo it will keep on going.

I was gutted when I heard this, it really upset me. The world will be a poorer place without him and his enthusiasm for his surroundings and the animals that lived in them. RIP Steve, hope you are enjoying a cold schooner up there.

never watched him but seen it on the news today it made me feel sick the way he had a baby dangeling over a crocidile!
thats just wrong!

shame for his family though :(

I was so sad when I heard about this. He always came across as a funny, kind & caring guy. My heart goes out to his family but at least he will be joined with his Mum now who he loved dearly & was devastated when she died.

My Mum & Dad met him when they flew back from Oz a few years ago, he was in first class with them & he still wore his Khaki shorts & shirt!! typical him I think.

RIP Steve, you'll be missed by many.

I feel so upset about this, I feel like someone I knew died :(

Sometimes i'd shout at the tv telling him not to aggravate the animals but he was such an ambassador for all of them. Those poor children

i cant believe hes gone, but as said earlier he is in a dangerous job where death could be delivered at any moment. like a policeman, fire fighter etc.

he died in a job that he loved, not many people could say that.

those poor poor babies. it breaks your heart.

Couldnt believe it when I heard the news, almost thought he was indestructable.
Feel really gutted he has gone, alright he was a bit crazy but he did so much for wildlife & charity.

RIP
x

I was gutted when i heard the news on the radio this morning. My SS was heart broken, he loved all of his programmes....so much so he awnts to work with animals.

I went to his Zoo in Brisbane in 98, it was fantastic. Not Zoo like what so ever.

yay hels, you're back :cheer:

I really wanted to go to his zoo but we went to Warner Bros Land instead (and regretted it).

I agree davina, he died doing what he loved.

thats what i told SS, atleast he died doing some thing he was passionate about.

very sad  my thoughts are with his family xxxxx

davina said:
just read that his wife wants to broadcast the incident.

 Really??

Think if it was my OH i'd no way lt it be broadcast. But on the other hand maybe he would have wanted it to be broadcast?
