is it safe in the first 12 weeks? was told it was though due to pigment changes it may not work too well

Hiya,
Sorry I cant help you on this one.

I know that fake tan is fine, I checked it online the other day because the sun was out :)

The only real danger is of an allergic reaction because your skin might be more sensitive.

Some sites recommend avoiding as many chemicals etc as possible, especially in the first 12 weeks (so I'm not dying my hair for a few weeks, for instance) just because we don't know what effect they have. But probably they have no real effect.

Have you thought of just getting a bit of the self-tanning moisturiser or some self tanning wipes, then you could just put a bit on yor legs rather than an all-over tan? That way less of it would enter yor body.

I would go for it, it's easy enough to feel rough and unattractive in pregnancy and now and again you have to do something to give yourself a boost :)

I think your right-i'll leave it till i'm 12 weeks & then use the creams.

Thanks for website info. I am worried though as have been having tans & hair done up until 6weeks (when i found out i was preg). Its all such a worry i had a heavy night drinking at week 5 and had soft cheese. It's so difficult because it was not planned (though very happy).

Thanks for your help

Loads of people drink etc and use products in early pregnancy because they don't know they are preggers. I used a strong bleach lol, and stuff like that cos I love playing with my hair :D

In the first couple of weeks the baby doesn't notice quite so much because he's busy getting 'settled in'. Now at about the stage we are the baby is starting to concentrate on growing his brain etc so it might be safest to avoid some things.

But you still have to have a bit of a life sometimes and women have had babies in the past with out all the conflicting advice about restrictions that we have.

As a doc told me the other day 'we just don't know what effect a lot of things have. ' So while there's no evidence they're safe, there's no evidence they are dangerous. :)

My boyf says mothers were even advised to drink guiness in the sixties for their health- and it didn't do him any harm (this accompanied by pulling a mutant face!)

So I think you are right but it's hard for a hardened hair faffing addict like me to wait another 5 weeks to do my highlights. So I may crack in a week or so :D But do 'damage limitation' by avoiding letting products touch my scalp much etc.

it sure it is getting comfy- its making me feel very sick and wont let me wear my fav clothes either haha.

you have made me feel a lot better-whenever i have my hair done they dont touch the scalp as it burns me at the best of times so thats good!

i am a big worrier-i worry for everyone even when they dont ha ha!!

ive brought every book under the sun-ill never get through them!

i'm finding it so hard to eat veg-the smell makes me want to be sick! hopefully i will start to feel better soon!!

I hate veg at the best of times, it's mingin lol. You could try eating a really beige flavour veg like cucumber and stuff.

i hate salad! no chance- i have just managed some veg-going to go out for a walk in a bit to help it go down!!

I'm going to Ireland this weekend (was booked before I knew I was pregnant. Going to the Guiness factory - I've heard that before about Guiness but strict orders from midwife not to have any alcohol :( Oh well, lots of irish food instead then!!!
If you don't like veg at the mo, have you thought about making a soup with potatoes, carrots etc? I often make homemade soups and liquidise - might hide the real taste of the veggies?

this is what I do, and have done since day one. Its the only way I can get any goodness into me!

I totally sympathis with you, but rest assured it does get better

I make fruit smoothies and sneak some veg in. Not having much of a sense of smell/taste I can do this- but my boyf doesn't like the taste! Here is a recipe, adapt to taste.

One and a half tins of strawberries in syrup (strawberries' flavour is strong, it'll hide some veg well)
Two pears
a courgette
half a cucumber
3 sticks of celery

schoosh to death in a blender, chill and drink with a straw.

My boyf says he can taste the celery too much, you could try carrots instead, because they taste quite sweet in a smoothie.

Gaspachio soup is nice too, if you can handle a bit of tabasco :)
