Hey guys,

I'm 32+3 at the moment, not seeing my midwife again for another 9 days... But I was wondering if I should speak to her about SPD, I think I might have it.

Basically, I'm really struggling to walk, can't get up stairs on my own unless I take it really slow, last night I had to crawl up there I was in so much pain. If I have to get up for the loo in the night I'm almost crying out in pain, had to hold onto the bed/wall all the way to my en suite, which felt like miles but in reality is only about 5 steps, thank god!

I can't move my legs to turn over in bed, I have to grab the headboard (we have one of those white metal french style beds) and yank myself into a seated position to turn over.

I've read that it can feel like a pulled groin muscle, which I've been feeling for about a week and a half, it's only just got worse over the last two days, and now it's unbearable.

Is this SPD?

Does anyone have any tips on how to make it better? Until I can speak to my midwife anyway, I don't want to be a moaning minny, I've got some crutches on the way, and I'm trying to take it easy. Quite hard because OH is offshore working, so he can't help me walk!

Thanks

xxx

Some of what you said is what im having hunny and i spoke to my midwife about it on Tuesday and i have SPD. If you are really uncomfortable call your midwife, she may just give you self help measures which are common sense like instead of standing on one leg putting your jeans on sit down, swivel yourself around when getting out the car rather than putting one leg out first and try not to walk up and down the stairs to much or she may send you to a physio x x

I have SPD too Hun and it's exactly as you have described! I actually have good and bad days, I thought it would just get worse but it's on and off for me. I find it's worse when I lie around and sit too much in the same position for long periods - a little light exercise seems to help. When it's really bad there was no chance though! My midwife wanted me referred to physio but my consultant just told me to take pain relief. He said to take regular doses of paracetamol. It does work for a time but I dont want to be taking it really. He kept assuring me it's safe but I just don't like the thought of taking it. I'd prefer other self help drug free alternatives like bump support etc. You can buy bump support bands in Boots for £10.20 which may help you. I'd say when you are really bad paracetamol may be the only option for quick relief. I find it worse first this in the morning when first getting up or in the middle of the night turning over or going to the loo. I struggle to put my clothes on some days! I hope it improves for you hun xxx

I have the exact symptoms, they've brought me to tears over the last few days, have weeks where I dont have it and have weeks where I cant move. Its not been diagnosed for me yet though. Had it with my first but it was just called pelvic pain by the doctors, they basically told me just to deal with it, only thing physio did was give me some exercises...there's not much that can help it, one of the biiig downsides of being pg.

Light exercise does help, also try using an exercise/birthing ball, sit on it as straight as you can holding your hands out to the front (in a zombie like fashion) feet flat on the floor and rotate your hips so that only you is moving and not the ball if that makes sense. (this is one the physio gave me that worked quite well)

O feel your pain hunny, ring ur midwife to speak to her about it. I've just been refered to physio have the appointment for next week n I can't work. With my first my oh had to pretty much carry my upstairs it was that painful . Paracetamol and as m2a said putting trousers on whilst sat down, sleep with a pillow between your legs. Take paracetamol for the pain. But I would recommend you speak to your midwife to discuss it and get a diagnosis x

Thanks ladies, I'll give her a ring monday morning. Think I'm going to need a paracetamol just to help me sleep! I really have no luck with my joints! I've only just turned 21 and I have had major knee problems for about 10 years! A softening of the cartilage that could mean I need knee cap replacements before I'm 30, and I have a bad back as well from before I was pregnant! So I really don't need all this extra pain!

Really need to get one of those exercise balls, and I'll sleep with a pillow between my legs. Already have to sit down to get dressed because of my balance issues (another lovely pre-pregnancy problem that has got worse!) so I'll carry on doing that!

I'll just store this away with my chronic anaemia, migraines, LO still in breech position, and measuring ahead... Who knew pregnancy could be this fun haha! I feel bad for OH, he feels so guilty he's away, he was really worried about me this morning when I spoke to him on the phone, he wants to get back and look after me!

Not going to lie, I want him to come back and look after me too! Starting to lose the will to be happy, only 53 days and *fingers crossed* I should have my LO!

xx
