Hi can anyone tell me if we are allowed to do anything in a spa? Irealise the steam room is probably out but anything else?

My lovely OH is taking me away for my birthday (30 - arggghhh!) next weekend and he wants to know if its worth booking the hotel he has seen with a spa or go for somewhere else instead.

Anyone any idea?

I'd call and see what their policy with pregnant women is. We went to Bath and went into the spa pools there which was fine however I did ask my midwife because I know that jacuzzis are a no no - she said that it was more the risk of the bubbles taking the bacteria up your orifices than the heat. Also when I was 14 weeks preg I went for a massage and facial and the girl wouldn't massage my back because she said that (like a pedicure) it gets the toxins moving around your body. Ended up having an hr long facial instead! Don't know how much truth is in that. They do do spa packages for mums to be though don't they?

they say no jacuzis coz of it affecting ur circulation.. 5 misn wont harm i dont recon.. go for it u desreve pampering..

Don't let anyone say you can't use a sauna because it's utter rubbish.. even though there's loads of stuff on the internet saying that it causes neural tube defects in the baby..

My DH is Finnish, and 98% of the pregnant Finnish population use saunas from the moment they get pregnant all the way through and sometimes in labour... and Finland has one of the lowest rates of neural tube defects in Europe... Yet Ireland where hardly anyone uses saunas has one of the highest rates of neural tube defects..

My DH's mum used saunas and jumped in cold lakes in both her pregnancies, both babies born fit and healthy..

Obviously if you have some condition like high bp, diabetes etc, you need to be careful... and you need to use saunas like Finnish people do.. they spend like 5/10 minutes in one, go have a swim/shower and then go back in for another 5/10 minutes and do this over and over again, then go have something salty to eat and refreshing to drink to replace all their lost salt and fluids... Saunas are an art form in Finland

im having a spad day for xmas, some spas offer special treatments for pregnant ladies

mine consists of a hot stones full body massage, manicure, pedicure, facial, indian head massage, and to relax in steam rooms and lunch,

i cant wait

Oooh Happy 30th Clarey :D Have a great weekend away.

I went looking for you in tri 1! Has it really been so long since I've been here  Glad to see things are going so well for you, won't be long before little one is here :D

Thanks guys, the sauna thing is interesting, thanks squig for the science paper.

I think I will ring and ask their policy in case their insurance doesnt cover me or something

As for getting up to anything naughty - ha in OH's dreams!!

Cheers x
