Hi all,

sorry I know you're probably all sick to death of me.
I'll give the quick version of the last few days. I was hospitalized on Friday due to "early labour". I had the swab that confirmed my body was producing the right chemicals for labout (can't remember what thats called) so it was all quite scary. Anyway over the last few days the tightenings passed and they said they think it's a kidney infection. Although they don't yet have the results I was sent home (the swab test I had says labour could occur within 14 days so im still very nervous). They just said if it was a kidney infection they can just send out antibiotics in the post.
So, I came back late last night, slept lovely through the night but today I can't move for pain. I'm not exagerating i'm lying in bed and have to hold my breath and brace myself just to turn over. Im taking regular pain relief but I feel so crampy and it's just agony. The pain is mostly in my lower back but spreads right the way round my stomach. Every movement causes cramping that have had me in tears, with hubby back at work today I thought i'd cope ok on my own just resting but I havnt been able to stand through the pain long enough to make a cuppa :(
The pain isn't coming and going as contractions would its just always there and triggered by any movement or staying still for too long.

Can someone just reassure me that this sounds right for a kidney infection? I've never had one so don't know what to expect. Im nervous anyway but im worried that this level of pain will just continue to trigger labour symptoms, im expecting to start gushing blood or my waters go or something :/
The hospital have said I don't need to be there so I just don't know what to do with myself.

Hi jessie, I've never had a kidney infection myself but to me it does sound like the pains in the right area for kidneys and ive heard people say it's worse than contractions when they have a kidney infection so it does sound very likely. When will you hear off the hospital about your results? If it is a kidney infection you need to start antibiotics asap really so that maybe the only thing that will reduce your pain. Sorry to hear your suffering xxx

No experience with that Jessie, but just wanted to say I'm sorry you're in so much pain :(

My dad has had previous problems with kidney stones and every time it's flared up he's been in excruciating pain. The first time it happened he took himself off to hospital it was that bad, and he's a typical bloke who won't go to the doctors even if his arm fell off usually. I'm surprised that they've sent you home with nothing in terms of pain killers or antibiotics. Usually when my dad is bad he gets both from the GP straight away. I'd maybe ring them up and ask for further advice or contact your own gp.

Sorry you're having such a rotten time of it just now. Must be pretty scary.

Sorry no experience with kidney infections, but just wanted to say sorry to hear you're still suffering and hope you feel better soon xx

Ive had kidney infection and they are bad... I mind lying in bed one night in excruciating pain. I had to go downstairs and cried to my parents bat the time, im not usually one to giv in so when they seen state I was n were concerned. I had to go out of hours docs at our hospital do a sample which I was peeing alot of blood then. Antibiotics cleared it up.
Kidney infections usually are back pain. If its ur left kidney it will be higher just sort of below ur lung and on the right is usually lower as ur liver is there.
Did they send u on ur way without testn ur urine? Defo ringn someone for advice.

Thanks all for sharing your experiences and wishing me well.
I've read up a lot online and apparently a kidney infection can be more painful then labour itsefl so it's put my mind at ease knowing that nothing else is happening and it does explain the level of pain im in.

I did have urine tested before leaving the hospital and they said it did show something and along with my symptoms said it was likely to be the a kidney infection but still no prescription. Im nervous that the longer it goes on the more it could trigger labour. Oh well I should be able to start treatment in the next day or 2 and if I get back to the point of it being unbearable il just go back to hospital x

I've had a kidney infection and it was very very painful. It was hard to tell where the pain was initially, but I ended up poking myself just below my ribs on my side and it was agony, so I could tell that was where it was.

I don't want to frighten you but kidney infections can turn to septicemia if left untreated so I'm very surprised they didn't give you antibiotics yet..

I read about that which annoyed me that i've been left this long, on top of that I still feel like im at risk of early labour whilst my body is so run down. They must have thought I wasn't at risk to have let me go but im keeping an eye on things and if it gets worse or my temperature goes right up I won't hesitate to go back x

Yes please go see someone.. there is no reason for u to be in such pain. Even ring the ward up that u were on or get to ur gp. U need something.as pain will get worse. Cranberry juice is good to help flush it out

Frign twats shouldn't sent u on ur way too if something showed on ur urine. Even if they hadv given u something to help and then change dose or tablets when ur sample came back from lab as that what happens to me..

This was my thinking, it seems less risky starting me on antibiotics and not needing it ran not starting and it getting worse. I just feel so worn out wih doctors though so I've just resigned myself to hoping they've made the right call :/

Just wondering how you're doing? Did you get your antibiotics?
