ok , just look at the annabel site , now its up again , and she adds things like butter / milk / baby rice

should i be doing this ? ive literally just pureed the stuff together with its own juices or the apple and pear juice from that puree

Has it asked for it in the recipe hun? if you use butter remember to get the low salt one. You can omit stuff though wont do any harm tbh, it will just change the texture. x

Gah annabel Karmel ... her recipies are evil... She has a leek one that asks for butter and well... thats good enough for grown ups to eat    I wouldn't worry too much...babies don't know the difference :rotfl:

tbh the site wasnt working when i started so have just made my own up but i didnt add anything at all , just the fruit / veg and some water ( juice that it was cooked in ) otherwise not a thing !

i have just made 15 pots of food
2 mixed veg
4 mixed veg and sweet pot
1 butternut squash
1 apple pear and suede
1 mango pear and apple
2 mango and sweet pot
2 apple pear and suede
2 butternut squash and mix veg

mix veg being parsnip / carrot and broc'

im soo proud ! as most of you know i cant cook , have never cooked for him and have just done this , so hopes he likes it ! his just tried mix veg and sp and seems to be ok !

I'm sure he'll enjoy them :) Might take him a little while to get used to the different flavour over the jars but once adjusted I'm sure he'll scoff them.

Some of them sound really yummy :) Good on you for giving it a go :cheer:

but it hasnt worked out as cheap as i expected , it works out at 42p a pot , prob slightly bigger pots then the jars but the jars cost 55p or cheaper if there on offer !

have i done something wrong to why its not that cheap ? cos like this i dunno if its best to stick to jars cos i didnt use the best ingrediants when i know hipp use organic and i didnt ? :?

plus its took all afternoon :rotfl:

do you have a market near you? Ive never cooked alices dinner in bulk and frozen it but was advised that if i did to go and get my fruit and veg from there. It works out cheaper (i do get some of our normal veg from the market if ive got a thursday booked off work!).

We get our fruit and veg from a market... Now if I get commercial pots it costs 1,07€ from the supermarket, but thats the bog standard cheapie.. if I want to get something like organix it's going to cost between 2 and 3€... I can get a whole months worth of fruit and veg for around 8€ so the saving is huge.

But Gem if the saving isn't huge or you actually loose money then don't do it :) I honestly only make home made for lil miss because its a lot cheaper... :)

well done Gem!

I just use the water from steaming the veg to puree them down

Need to do my next lot ;)

his tea and dessert he had tonight i made , he wasnt overally impressed lmao and the fruit puree tasted horrid to me , need about a bag of sugar in it

im glad ive done it , cos least i can say i can and did , and will continue to maybe do a batch a week , and if we do eat something i can blend up then perfect , but i wont be cooking meat etc just for him so will still use meat jars anyway , i was seriously disapointed with the price results and it means ive prob given him less quality veg too ! cant win ! i deffo wont feel so guilty given jars now tho they taste so much nicer ! ( and surely cant have too much in them to do lil one harm or they wouldnt be allowed ?)

:rotfl: Ky doesnt like fruit puree i think its too sharp for him and im sure he'd like it with sugar in, maybe as a treat when he's older. i remember when i was little my mum use to give me cut up apple with a tiny pile of sugar to dip it in  i use to love it! i was alot older though!

Ive found it to be nearly as expensive to. takes alot of time up to and its hard work when your knackered from working a ten hour shift and have a whirlwind of an 8month old hairing round the house after the cat  and i cant do it when hes gone to bed as i have a precious hour to myself then i usually conk out on the sofa!

hows leland with lumps now? Ky is an absolute NIGHTMARE! ive never got more than a spoonful of lumpy food down him in one session he just attacks the spoon with his hand  i swear hes guna be eating puree in college the way hes going

Gem - what you might find easier is to just make up straight fruit & veg purees individually & freeze into cubes. This way you arent limited with variety, you can mix & match when you get them out to defrost to give Leland different tastes.

I normally have a bag each of cubes of:
Veg - sweet potato, butternut squash, carrot, parsnip, pea
Fruit - apple, pear, peach, strawberry, blackberry

Then get out & mix them together - Oliver has between 3 & 4 cubes total:

2 cubes butternut squash & 1 cube pear
carrot, swede, parsnip, sweet potato.
Carrot & pea
Fruit medley of 1 cube each of apple, pear, peach.
blackberry & apple.

etc. etc. etc.

To sweeten up the fruit, how about serving with a little custard?

I dont' think it works out cheaper either, but at least you know whats in them :D Harrisons favs are chicken, sweet pot and carrot! oh and fish, potato & cheese sauce
