sorry its a bit late ladies but ive finally got round to doing my labour thread,so here goes.....i had a fairly rough pregnancy with severe hyperemisis,gestational diabetes then small for dates,i was told i couldnt go overdue so would need an induction on my due date,ive got 2 other children who are 11 and 9 and i had inductions with both and very quick deliveries my first being 6 hours and second 4 hours and i wanted to try and avoid induction this time.
as i work in maternity as a nursery nurse one of my colleagues does maternity reflexology and offered me some sessions,i had one at 38 weeks then one at 39 weeks after each session i started getting tightenings but nothing came of them,my midwife came a few days before my induction date to try and perform a sweep but it was unsuccessful as she couldnt reach my cervix so my colleague returned on the thurs to do another reflexolgy sesssion,i started getting period cramps shortly after.that evening i had a show.the next day i felt unwell,very sick and achy so i had a lazy day,my friend made a joke about not going into labour as it was the 31st aug and i didnt want a last day of the school year baby.
i started getting regular pains about 6pm.i timed them and they were every 10 mins but werent painful so i was just bouncing on my ball,they stopped at about 9pm so i put my other 2 to bed and had a nice bath then went to bed.within ten mins the pains started again it was 11.45pm,i stayed in bed and timed them and again they were every 10 mins and a bit more ouchy,i stayed in bed for about an hour but then i was uncomfortable so i got up and went downstairs at 1 am,i bounced on my ball,took paracetamol and tried to breath through them,they were still every 10 mins.i phoned triage at 2am as they were quite painful and they advised me to carry on with what i was doing as they still werent close enough so i muddled on till 3am then i called my sister shes a midwife and i told her i couldnt cope with the pain now and i didnt know what to do,she said they werent close enough but if i couldnt cope then to go in and get some stronger pain relief,i stuck it out a bit longer till i couldnt cope anymore.i phoned my friend at 3.55am and got my oh up and we made our way to hospital.
we got to triage at 4.30am by which time i was in agony,got the gas and air and was examined and i was 3-4cm,i got moved to labour ward at 4.55am and sofia carmen arrived at 05.32 am!!!!!!! i progressed rather quick and was in shock afterwards,had such a lovely delivery and felt very at home as i knew everyone,i thoroghly recommend reflexolgy to start labour as thats what got me going xxx sofia was 2 days early and 6lb 10 oz xxxx
