Not sure if this is the right place but just need to vent.

I have worked for the same company for 8 years this coming October. Always done whatever shifts they have needed me to do etc.

Well they offered me a part time shift to go back on, 9:30 till 5:30 monday, 10:30-5:30 Friday and every other saturday 10:45 - 2:45.

I have asked them to make the slightest changes, swapping the alternate Saturday I do to the opposite one (cos MIL can have Jack that day) and moving the friday and Monday shift 30 minutes earlier (because otherwise it doesn't leave me enough time to get to the nursery as it closes at 6)

Now they phone me today and tell me that they wont change the hours from what they have offered me :wall:

I've been crying all morning, I know some people would love to be a SAHM but I can't afford to be. Plus I enjoy my job and love people I work with and get good benefits. It just upsets me so much that this is how they repay your loyalty  Spent the morning in tears.

I have looked up the flexible working policy and I know they don't HAVE to give me the hours I want but they have to seriously consider them and if they refuse they have to write to me explaining why and give me a chance to appeal.

The only thing i'm worried about is the fact time is not on my side, i'm meant to be going back in 2 months time and i need to sort out nursery and everything if they are to change my hours yet again. What do I do!!

Oh no! I don't really know what to say but didn't want to read and run.

I've got a meeting about returning to work on 5th March and i'm really worried about it as i'm not sure what to expect.

Can they not let you work the hours you want in a different department?

No, Cos I work in sales and they would have to retrain me to work in the other departments on our site. I'd be willing to do anything but at the same time I don't see why I should have to

So annoying.

Don't let this worry you about your meeting though, my company has a reputation for being a bunch of awkward *******s when it comes to following policies :x Luckily for me I enjoy knowing everything i'm entitled to so i'm sure i'll get it sorted  I hope anyway

Hi Sweetcheeks,

can't make a long post atm, but google Jessica Starmer to see what happened when one of my work colleagues was refused hours that suited her by our tougher-than-the-norm employer. You should also be able to find details on how she approached her action against them. Your employer has to prove insurmountable difficulties if you are given the hours you request. TBH I can't see how half an hour will be that big a deal. Ask Citizen's Advice Bureau too. Good luck!

Thanks for that hun I will definately have a look, I just googled it now so have a fair idea. Think I am going to contact either CAB or ACAS :D

it really doesn't sound like you're asking for much and sounds like they're being a bit pig-headed... hope you manage to get it sorted out

Hope you get it sorted, does seem a bit crap that they won't change it by half an hour. I've just typed up my notice to return letter and completed my application for flexible working so it is interesting to hear other stories. Have you done it the right way by completing an application?
