I am due my routine smear (well was due in December) and I know you need to go at a certain time in your cycle. However as I am BF'ing I don't have a cycle??

Anyone have any ideas

I would ring GP and ask but it takes forever to get through.

Different scenario but I was on the mini pill and didn't have regular cycles if at all. I went to my smear after checking with the nurse and she said that it wasn't a problem.

Great, I'm in to see HV next week so I'll ask her anyway.

Another thing to get off my "to do" list

I had a smear test whilst breastfeeding with my eldest and the nurse said any time in the cycle was fine.xx

Yes anytime while breastfeeding if you have no cycle. I had to wait until 6 months after having baby before they'd do a smear ( I have to have yearly smears). I think it varies by area but you usually have to wait at least 3 months to let things settle.

Thanks ladies. I'll check with hv when baby has her 8 week check

I was ebf my son and had my smear when I wasn't having periods it came back inconclusive but she said that likely after having. Abbas waited 3 months went back and was all clear

I don't think it will matter :)

Hi Carnat, doctor told me this week to book mine for after 12weeks. No mention of needing to be at a particular point in a cycle. I'm terrified as I've had so many issues with my episiotomy healing!

The only reason they like it done at a certain time is so that the specimen is as clear as it can be. Ie: no blood etc. If you're not having any periods then you should be ok to go at any time. :)

WSS. I'm sure I'd heard to wait a few months after having baby before a smear.

It may well be different after having a baby as your cervix will be healing anyways...I meant in general. It's always best to ask :)
I'm not up to date with all the abbreviations...I don't know what WSS means :/ x

I had mine done 4 weeks ago and got the all clear :)
Still bfing and no periods yet xx

My doc told me wait till 12weeks..im overdue a smear test..must put it in my to do list.

I had one this week I was told to wait til 3 months after birth. Wasn't as painful as I was expecting!

they just don't do it while you are bleeding, so just book it, and if for any mad chance you were bleeding on the day - just cancel and reschedule!

I am on the mini pill where I don't bleed at all - so just went whenever I could get an appt!

As you know I spend most of my time doing this sort of thing to ladies . Basically as long as you are not bleeding its fine. Blood mucks up the test, and we book people mid cycle just to minimise the risk of periods starting early etc.
