Had my 1st doc appt today and he said i have to have a smear test with the nurse asap as i havent had one in the last 5 yrs.

He said there would be no risk to the baby - is this true?

Would you agree to it or not?

I wouldn't, personally. If you haven't had one for five years, two more months shouldn't matter.

How do you feel about it?

I wouldnt, they couldnt do anything anyway.

I woudl wait until after I had the baby

I was always told you're not supposed to do that while you're pregnant. Are you able to speak to your midwife about it?

Hope it all goes ok!

yes midwife is due to ring me soon so I'll ask her advice before I do anything - am losing faith in my doc after he asked me if i would breast feed today (in my 1st doc appt - thought this was routine until other post told me its not!) and when I asked about risk to the baby during smear test he said there would be none as my womb is like a bag with a tie on it and it has to keep a leg of lamb in it for 9 months (oh well bigger than a leg of lamb ... he said then?!!) ...so a brush scraping the neck wont do anythin!!

:rotfl: :rotfl: Thats brilliant! Is he coming up to retirement and wears a tweed jacket with leather patches on the elbows? :rotfl:

I was already booked in for a smear when I found out I was preggers and when I asked my doctor whether I should go ahead with it when I saw her at 6wks she said no, that the cells around my cervix would likely to be abnormal anyway due to changes that occur during pregnancy. Definately check with your midwife.

Yes I think he is due for retirement and does wear a tweed jacket - how did u guess lol!!!!!!!!!

I wouldnt have the smear hun, I would wait until baby is born

Personally i am always looking for an excuse to get out of them, so i would wait.

I doubt they are dangerous but I couldnt be faffed as they always struggle with me and hurt a bit. God knows how i will get a baby out!
Luckily i just have one less than a year ago.

I wouldn't either to be honest. I have never had a smear before and the dr just said that I will need one done 6 weeks after the birth then.

I had one during pregnancy. I can't recall at what point though.. I think around 14 weeks probably. This was due to on and off bleeding i'd had since week 9 of pregnancy and although i'd had treatment for it I had a history of abnormalities.

Had I not had the bleeding and the previous abnormal smear test then I would not have had it and would have definately waiting until end of pregnancy.

I had a smear test in my first trimester and everything was fine. I have to go to the hospital for mine to be taken and they advised that I should go ahead with it as I have had treatment in the past. Do whatever you feel best with, but if you do wait please make sure you have on once the baby has arrived.

If there is no medical need for one then I'd wait until after you have had LO as I was told they don't do smears or internals unless nesscesary (sp?) in pregnancy because of risk of infection or something like that but deffo make sure you book yourself in for one after your 6 week postnatal because they are important
