Hey All!
OK I know I am going to get my bum kicked for saying this but I am worried Hattie is sleeping too long at night!! in the last few days I have been putting her down at midnight and she will go through till 6 no problem and even then she had to be woken for the feed. The other day she went till about 7.30. Now I have read that you shouldn't let a newborn go for longer than 5 hrs without feeding. She is 4 weeks old and had been difficult to settle and sleep but now I am concerned she is sleeping for too long. Should I be actively waking her up to feed her after 5 hrs or is it OK to leave her till she wakes naturallly? Its crazy, having been desperate for her to sleep longer I am now worried she is sleeping too long! I know I will eat my words and it will all change back an she will be up every 2 hrs again! Oh FWIW I breastfeed but her final feed is a bottle of EBM to give my boobs a rest as her final feed of the day was a marathon 2 hrs and so its a way of getting it into her a little quicker and it saves my poor nipples which have been suffering (thrush, mastitis ouch!)
Many thanks for any words of wisdom
xxxxx

Ivy sleeps through as well, I don't wake her for a feed I know when shes hungry she will wake herself. She always used to wake every 3-4hours and now she goes 4-6 hours or slightly longer some nights. I would say unless she had a very low birth weight then not to bother to wake her because shes obviously happy enough asleep that long with out feeding. I have never woke Ivy for a feed and she puts on around 7oz a week so as long as she gets as much as she wants when she is awake then I would say shes fine and enjoy your sleep!

IMO it depends on how she feeds during the day. My LO sleeps well and has done 5 hours at night (used to be 1 - 6am) from about 4 or 5 weeks. Now it's about 7 hours from about 12am to 7. But she eats alllll day.

I remember asking my HV about it earlier on and she told me she wouldn't worry and wake her either as: she's gaining weight well, she's eating really well during the day also. She said if she wakes for feeds then feed on demand. She sleeps at night pretty well and feeds all day and puts on perfect weight every time we get weighed, so I'm happy with her doing that.

As the other said really. And make the most of it!!! Lol.
I don't get more than 3 hours at night at a time and always have been like that. When she has growth spurts and teething you'll wish you'd have caught up on sleep while she was sleeping!!! Lol

Sounds like your LO may well be filling up on the bottle of EBM at midnight so I wouldnt worry, I certainly wouldnt wake baby up for a feed, providing your LO is putting on a healthy weight gain then just leave to sleep and feed as and when.

Just let her sleep lol enjoy it! apparently when i was a baby i was sleeping through from 5pm-7am at 5 weeks old, My mum had it easssssy with me lol!!

aww your post made me giggle

Dont worry hun and get your head down and enjoy the sleepy time!!! I think the majority of Mummys would LOVE to be in your position right now!! She will let you know when she is hungry xx

I wouldn't worry about it either

Enjoy the sleepy time! I could change when a growth spurt hits and teething starts :(

With a few exceptions, Jacob slept for 6 or 7 hours from day one. He has always fed well during the day so he gets enough to last through the night. I guess that's the point of demand feeding. I agree that the only reason to wake them up for a feed would be if they aren't thriving with what they're asking for.

Thanks everyone! Feel very reassured, also saw HV yesterday and Hattie had gained 12 oz in 8 days  so the lack of night feed clearly is not hurting her!!
