My 5 month old is still up 3 times a night to feed :( is anyone the same? Everyone I speak to says their bf babies sleep through or are up once and I can't decide if they are lying or if I really am the only one. Any tips on how to, I duno, fill her up better? She definitely fills her belly at 10pm and when she's up during the night I feed her, change her nappy to wake her then feed her again hoping to fill her but I just doesn't last her very long. Will it get better once she's eating solids? She's 5 months this coming Sunday and I'm going to start some porridge and rice then. I'm shattered

Hey Ellen, I'm not sure I'll be much help here. My little girl stopped night feeds at 10 weeks. Long story short I got nipple thrush and had to express all my milk so was giving her 150ml at 7pm and 150ml at 10pm and then she was only waking once for a nappy change at 4am then had her morning bottle at 7am. But every baby is different so don't worry yourself by comparing to others. I started my little girl on solids at 4 months because she seemed ready. I got pregnant again when she was 5 months and by 7 months my milk had dried up so I switched her to formula. Since then she had has 150ml formula at 7am,7pm and 10pm plus three meals a day and snacks. No doubt your baby's pattern will change once you introduce solids. Breast feeding is super hard work so just feel proud of yourself and try not to worry! X

Well done for getting this far :)

My lo is eight months and the longest he's ever gone ever is five hours. On a normal night he usually goes four hours, three hours, two hours then an hour then wakes. During the fourth leap he went back to feeding every two hours round the clock. He's in the middle of the 6th leap and fed more in the night again and two hours again sometimes but he's creeping back to three or four hours thank god.

They need the extra nutrients in the night for their growth spurts and mental development so you just gotta roll with it I'm afraid :)

If you're struggling you could try getting your partner to do a night feed with formula. But I would stick to roughly the same time.as your supply will change.

My son was exactly the same and would sleep for a maximum of 4 hours at around that age (most of the time, he would sleep a lot less)

I started dream feeding. I would put him to the breast when I went to bed and this topped him up a little and helped extend the time he would sleep for.

You're definitely not alone xx

Thanks for the replies girls, the reason I wake her up and change her nappy is because I know when she dream feeds she doesn't feed for as long. I'm sure we'll get there eventually I just get so tired but it's nice to know I'm not alone. Her pattern sounds very similar to your Lo TTT. I'm not going to give her formula, I've nothing really against it but I've gotten this far and I'm starting with porridge next week and then we'll start with finger foods at 6 months so we'll begin cutting down in the near future anyway. Not necessarily at night but I'd still rather keep going myself. Thanks again ladies

Good for you Ellen :) I'm sure I read something about the milk you make at night teaches babies to feel sleepy at night.

Keep going el1en! We're still the same at 5 months, no sleep in this house. Baby still wakes every 2 hours without fail. I still nap in the day when I can. The way i see it, he's thriving in every way and these night feeds won't last forever, he knows better than any text book if he needs milk at night or not so I'm just going with it. Hubby gets up with him at the weekends so I get to lie in and that keeps me going. You're giving your baby an amazing gift (even if you're shattered in the process) feel proud and remind yourslef that you'll miss these little night snuggles when they're all grown up!

Hi, my LO is 4 months and wakes very silmilar times being discussed here. Do you co sleep? I'm trying to get her into her crib as she now needs to go to bed earlier and currently only sleep feeding in bed with me! Failing miserably with the crib tho!

Aw Karen I feel for you, thankfully she does go into her crib. It's funny actually she turned 5 months on Sunday and Sunday night and Monday night she only had me up twice. I'd love to think we're turning a corner, fingers crossed
