Does anyone use these sleeping bag/sack thingies instead of blankets at night? Do you put baby in a onesie and the sleeping bag or just a vest and the sleeping bag? Don't want him to be too hot or cold!

Yep we've used them from early on, usually a sleep suit and bag,if it's warm just a long sleeve vest and bag. X

I can finally use mine as he now fits into them! I put him in his babygro & then the suit didn't think he could go in in just his vest will try then when it's warm again

It depends on the temperature in the room and tog of the sleeping bag.

Gro-bags have a chart that tells you what to dress baby in. For example, for temperature of 21degC the baby would be in a t-shirt vest and a 1 tog sleeping bag.......this is all complete bollox, as my baby would be too cold dressed like that!!!!

Anyway, I've got a couple sleeping bags but am a little nervous about putting him in one as I am worried the bag would rise up to his face. You are supposed to fold the excess material at the bottom but I still think there is a lot of spare fabric!

Thanks ladies, yeah I guess it's just using common sense based on room temperature but you never know, am very paranoid about him being too hot but also want him to be cosy xo

Big bee that is why I didn't put my little boy in his until now as when he was born he was tiny so I was terrified he would slip down & they are still very big on him but only at the bottom not the top. I fold the bottom over & not had a problem even though it's easier for me to just use cellular blankets

I've just started using a grobag after the swaddle up. I love the chart and free room thermometer. I co sleep so my baby has some warmth fromme. He is currently sleeping in a 1 tog grobag with a short sleeved baby grow on and our room is 21/22 degrees at night.

I'm still using them now and my LO is 16 months. There are different togs for different seasons, so just buy whatever the suitable one is. M&s have some on sale at the moment. Or there's an eBay store that does the gro bag ones at a much more reasonable price than the high street stores.

Just looked it up. It's called babycurls

Sleeping bags are a godsend. I can't wait to put DD in one (she's waaaay too small right now).

Blankets freak me out since DS got under his one night when he was teeny.

Feel the back of baby's neck for a good idea of how warm they are. Standard rule is "one more layer for baby", so, if you're in pjs and duvet, baby would be in vest, pjs, and bag, but... It's up to your kid, really. I'm in pjs year round cause I freeze. DS has been sleeping in just a nappy for a few weeks now cause he's a heat freak.

It's all kinda play-it-by-ear xx

I had this paranoia when we started using them but all babies are different. This is my general rule of thumb:
If our room is 24 degrees plus at bedtime he goes in a short sleeves vest in a 1 tog bag
If it is say 20-23 degrees he wears a long sleeve vest in a 1 tog bag
If it is 18-20 degrees he wears a long sleeve vest in a 2.5 tog bag
If it is below 18 he wears a sleep suit in the 2.5 tog bag.
We have had days where I have picked him up in the morning and thought, ooh your a bit warm/chilly, its not an exact science!
Good luck, I wouldn't go back to blankets. :)
