I had my first appointment with the midwife today and what an anti climax that was! She didn't do anything other than take basic details (do you smoke/ are you generally in good health). No bloods taken, no weighing which I sort of knew wouldn't happen. She gave me three leaflets about different ante natal classes I might want to go to. There was no pack or progress book, no advice about ensuring I have a healthy pregnancy.

Everything she did was covered when I went to advise the doctor so what the hell was the point???

Sorry, rant over :D

how far along are you?

its a bit odd as i thought all midwifes took blood etc on that first visit.

she should have run through a bit more with you though. sorry you didnt get what you expected

hiya
There isn't that much they can do at the moment anyway, they play much more of a role later on, for now you just have to wait for baby to grow :)

I know what you mean though, you're excited and you want all the info etc etc but it's a long journey there's plenty of time for that stuff later.

aww i bet it was dissapointing 4 u. the midwifes should go through everything with u,without u having to ask them but some midwifes are more efficient than others or maybe she was running late or something. hopefully she will b better at ur next appointment.

last pregnancy my booking in apointment was much the same as yours but a few weeks later i received a letter to go to hospital to give blood etc

But this time the midwife took blood there and then, you can maybe ring and ask when you will have to give blood etc?

My booking appointment consisted of the MW asking loads and loads of questions and filling in the book that I keep with me all the time (the one you take to all your appointments with you - Maternity Notes), height, weight and blood pressure.

Bloods aren't done until around 13-14 weeks, after your dating scan (here anyway)...

thanks ladies for the reassurance.

I've got my scan on Thursday and the clock just isn't going fast enough for my liking!! :D

mine just asked health questions too, but she did seem like a nice lady.

I was hoping she would tell me what an amazingly beautiful baby i would have, with great genetic when she saw my wonderful OH  but she didnt haha
