Hi ladies,

Not posted much but enjoy reading other people's posts

My LO is now 14 months and although is healthy and generally happy he seems to be a bit slow compared to other babies his age, I know you should never compare however as there were 6 of us all due to give birth within 3 months of each other. All my friends babies are walking and saying a few words, my LO is the 3 youngest and still only says mamma and will not even attempt to walk if you hold his hands

He walks with his push along walker and understands me, if I say no he knows and if I ask him to get me the duck (his toy duck) he will go and get it. He has mastered throwing very well, which is a pain as he seems to want to throw everything down the stairs lol

He is also getting very fussy with his food :-(

Am I worrying over nothing or do you think I should speak to the HV or my GP?

It is a total cliche but its so true. Every baby is different and they do different things at different times. Im am part of a first time mums group who got together when our lo's were weeks old. There are 10 mummies and 10 babies who are all born within weeks of one another. Honestly they are all so different. One wee one was almost walking and my wee pudding was just sitting not moving at all. Hez always been a talker not a walker. Now hes ahead on speaking so its swings and roundabouts! Its so easy to compare but its not necesarrily right.

If it continues to be a real or growing concern then you could always say to a HV but 14 months is still young.

Nope not at all hun, he sounds perfectly normal they all develop so differently. My Harry US 15 months n inky in the last few weeks has walked independently he still mainly walks with his walker n has a handful of words. But understands everything around him!! They really will all so things differently but will all get there in the end. Try not to worry.

My son didn't walk properly on his own until nearly 18 months. Now he's 25 months and runs every where! You would never think looking at him he was behind! They really do develop at their own pace.

He sounds just fine to me. Fussiness where food is concerned is very common and my daughter has it on and off still, although it's now more off than on, thank goodness!

As for development, they do all develop differently, but your LO sounds fine. My son is 17 months and still only uses half a dozen words. Most of those have come in the last couple of weeks. He babbles well enough, but at the same age my daughter had well over 60 words! Both mine were/are late walkers. My daughter walked alone at 19 months and my son will do a couple of steps independently, but again, only in the last couple of weeks.

I personally don't think you need to speak to anyone just yet, especially as he understands what you're saying. Also with the walking, toddling along with a walker is fine. As he can do that, it's probably more that he just doesn't fancy walking holding hands rather than he can't. Try not to worry (or compare to your friends' babies)... easier said than done! xx

Thanks all, I know he is fine and I always tell people never compare but here I find myself doing just that.... Silly really

Perfectly normal hun, my friends daughter was walking at 10 months but my daughter was about 14 months before she was wobbling around, all kids are so different that it is a waste of energy trying to compare them :) xx
