i was just on teletext and came across the heading of should babies be mircochipped at birth.

i happen to think that this is horrible and why whould you want to think about doing that?

but what do you ladies think??

i think its a good idea and i wouldn't have a problem with it at all.

I don't think you should have to have your kids micro chipped. But the option should be available. :)

i think it is a good idea in theory but hate to think how it would be done

I'm pretty sure if you spoke to the parent of any missing child and said to them that if they had had a choice and their children could have had a microchip that would have been able to trace their kids, dead or alive, they would have given their right arms to have them implanted in their kids. All parents of missing kids say it's the not knowing that is the worst.

While there are fundamental human rights to consider concerning this... I think I would want my little girl chipped as long as that chip could be used to locate her through GPRS if she was taken. A bit like the chips in cars that can locate the cars if they are stolen?...

On the other hand if it's just a chip with her name, address etc, it seems pretty pointless considering the UK can't even get their finger out and issue us with ID cards   Which I really want... but that's a really long story that most Ex pats living in other countries understand.

I can see the good and bad points as the others have said. What about when they are grown up? I cant imagine many adults signing up to it (I certainly wouldnt) as there is the whole 'Big brother is watching you' issue but if kids were microchipped there would be a whole generation of adults with them a few years down the line

i think i would agree to it but maybe it should be removable at 18 if they want it removed xxxxxxx

it's such a sad reflection on todays world that this subject is even up for discussion.

We want to chip our children because we're afraid of them being snatched by sickos. In the meantime, the said sickos are walking around freely, being given shamefully pathetic 'punishment' for their crimes.

Tag the peados, not our kids!!!

Children being snatched by peados is still a rare occurance, and even more rare is that a peado commits murder as his first offence. As soon as he has downloaded child pron etc, he sould be punished, chipped, bloody well castrated for all I care........why are his human rights more important that our babies?

Surely we should be concentrating on dealing with society's sickness, rather than tagging our babies?

It's just not the answer. Pretty soon the childhood we all knew and enjoyed will have been taken away for good. Kids will be tagged, kept under lock and key, and deprived of any freedom at all........it's so wrong :wall: :wall:

I have to agree it should have the option to be removed at 18.. although the whole big brother thing watching you  as an excuse doesn't really wash in the UK anymore... The UK already has one of the most sophisticated surveillance systems in the world..

It's scary just how much you guys in the UK are watched, monitored and tracked...   As long as your mobile phone is on the government can track you to a 10m radius and use you mob... and they will know exactly where you are.. well to a few cm's :rotfl:

where would the chips be?
as my only consurn would be that whoever toke the child could cut it out of them possibly
manda xx

As I said. Most of these 'people' are already known to the authorities due to minor offences. It's incredibly rare for a paedo to assault a child as his very first crime.
As soon as they come to the attention of the police due to a sexual misdemeanour, they should be monitored.
Surely that makes more sense than putting microchips into our children?

When this subject first came up I was adamant it was a terrible idea, but now im kinda on the fence.

The point that makes me most for it is that if it happened to one of my kids (gods forbid) I would wish they had been chipped. But what makes me most against it is that these kind of sickos usually share information and it wouldnt be long until they came up with a way of either removing or disabling them, and this probably wouldnt be done with health and safety in mind, and could possibly add to the motive of murder.

I suppose if they were completely un-noticeable - ie a stranger had no way of knowing if they were chipped or had any way of disabling or removing them - if they could be removed once the child chooses to have it removed - and if there would be absolute guarantees that they would be used for no other purpose, then yes its a great idea. But I dont have that much faith in the government to address those issues.

I agree completely that the sickos need to be targetted more heavily. I agree that at the first wiff of peado behaviour (ie pics or flashing etc) then chip them. Get them monitored before they do anything more serious. Get them on drugs that take away their sexual urges (depo prevera does that to men so its possible) It would take a lot of manpower and funds but its worth it to stamp them out.
