Shift working

i work shifts, no pattern just a mixture of day and nights (12 and half hours) i get incredibly tired, i make sure on my days off i rest a lot and i go to bed by 9pm every night, i find this helps but theres no easy way around it.

Hopefully you won't feel so tired after the first tri until you get into the third trimester at least.

Can you not request that you go on to day shifts rather than doing nights whilst your pregnant, it can't be good for you to be doing nights whilst your pregnant. I'm sure you could speak to your midwife and see if she can recommend that you go on to days.

I'm sure where I work, they don't recommend that pregnant women work nights. Ask for a risk assessment.

Hi,
I work shifts too, 8-8, mostly 2 days and a night with three or four off. In the ambulance service, but they give you the option to go on light duties at any time. I'm in an office at the moment and there is no way I could do shifts and be pregnant, totally shattered, nausea etc I would be throwing up in the back of the ambulance all over the patient, not what you really wanna do!!!

All employers are meant to evaluate you job and give you the option of something else more suitable and if they can't find you anything (which is bound to be very rare) they pay you normal salary and you stay at home. Ask for their policies and procedured regarding pregnancy.
Good luck.

If you are not coping well then you have the right to ask for accomadated/adjusted hours There was some research in one of the pregnancy mags last month that said you should ideally not work for more than 24 hours per week when pregnant.....

In my last job they stopped you from working night shifts when you were pregnant....
