How soon after baby can you expect to loose the baby weight to make a start on loosing the excess pre-pregnancy weight? I'm due 8th August and going on holiday on the 9th February....what type of weight loss do you think I could be looking at in say 5 months after birthing. I do plan on breastfeeding if at all possible and ideally would love to shrink 2 dress sizes. Possible do you think or am I living in a dream world? :?

It all depends, everyone is totally different.
by the time evie was 2 weeks old i was back into my pre-pregnancy clothes (altough still have a bit of a wobbly belly), and im not even breastfeeding. but some women keep there pregnancy weight on for much longer.
I think if your breastfeeding it should help you to lose the weight, but also if you eat well and excercise then you'll be back to your old self in no time.
hun Try not to force it though as your body has gone through major changes (as you know)but they do say it takes 9 months to put iton so it can take 9 months for it to come off. :D

You should have lost most of the baby weight by about 2 weeks. I was looseing about 2lb a day for 2 weeks then I was just left with the fat I already had.

I was as above, back ino clothes after few weeks but still have jelly belly :)

Yeah I'm not expecting miracles by any means I'm just hoping I can loose the baby weight plus a tad extra to shrink a size by February (5 months more or less). Fingers crossed...no crash dieting, promise!!

I lost my pg weight too within 2 weeks, I'm one dress size smaller than I was pre-pregnancy & bf'ing...but still have a jiggly belly, so I still look about 4 months pg

I'm hoping to lose a stone over the next few months, not pushing myself diet wise, just trying to walk more :D

Em, that's my plan too...walking, it's why (as DH keeps reminding me!!) we bought such a lovely pram!! Happy to walk away the pounds though. I'm sure I'll always have a jiggly tummy now just so long as I loose the excess weight type thing, not looking to have a washboard stomach anymore...I'd much rather have baby!! xx

I'm doing a lot of walking too and hoping that helps as we have the wedding in Sept!

Walking kids to and from school each day will be 4 miles in itself and my m&p pliko pramette doubles as my zimmer frame! very comfy to push :D :rotfl:

I breastfed for a little while and I could feel my stomach going back to normal with each feed. It really does help. 2 weeks after my stomach had gone down loads and I just looked newly pregnant and then by 6weeks I was pretty much in all my old clothes, just a little heavier. I walked all over with the pram too, it totally helps xx

i still can't get in my pre pregnancy clothes

i am very prone to weight gain though and have very poor will power, you will be fine

Oh no me too, I just have to smell food and I gain weight...totally unfair when I have a pig of a sister who wears an 8 and it looks baggy on her!!! I'm "ok" on the willpower front though...we shall see!! :)

Hi

By 8 months when i got pregnant again i still had 20 pounds over what i had previously. Think everyone is different

i think 2 weeks to loose the baby weight is very fast
i am now only back to what i weighed before having got pregnant with Louie & hes 8 months old today!!!

but then again Louie is my 3rd child.

Hiya

Took me around 6 months to shed the majority but I was quite wobbly still - didn't tighten up properly until between 6-12 months. But then I didn't really do much exercise either so if you're making a concerted effort to get back in shape I'm sure you can do it much quicker than I did :D

I think - especially if you are breastfeeding that you'll loose most of the weight within 5 months.

LBxx

i was back into my normal clothes 2 weeks after having hayden and my belly is a tiny bit wobbley still but its nearly flat again

After my first I was back into my normal clothes only a few weeks after birth. This time is harder ...I cant seem to shift the wobbly bits :(

It is hit and miss wether you will loose weight when breastfeeding, some do, some dont

I havnt I am still two 2dress sizes to big but to be honest hun worrying about weight will not help when breatfeeding, eat healthy drink plently of water and you might be lucky but it is very important you dont loose to much weight quickly as you can release fat into the milk.

Just like "drinking to thirst", you should "eat to hunger" while nursing. Studies have shown that most nursing mothers tend to lose up to one and a half pounds a month for the first 4-6 months after giving birth, and continue to lose weight at a slower rate beyond that time. They tend to lose more weight than formula feeding moms who take in fewer calories. If you want to lose weight (and most of us do - how depressing to still be wearing those old maternity clothes we got so sick of after the baby is born…) plan to do so slowly. It's best not to try to aggressively lose weight during the first couple of months after birth, because during that time your body needs to recover from childbirth and establish a good milk supply. Losing weight too quickly (more than one to one and one half pounds per week) has been associated with the release of environmental contaminants stored in body fat into the milk.
