Feeding issue again!!

OK, so Evie's not feeding well at the moment. We both have thrush (me on my nips and her of her mouth) and she also has a tongue tie so can't latch. I have been perservering through the pain for 3 weeks now and it is AGONY.

The pain is so bad that I dread feeds etc. Because I'm at risk of giving up if I carry on this way, here is my plan;

Evie's getting her tongue clipped on Thursday, hopefully she'll be able to latch after that. My nipples are so cracked and sore from the thrush & Evie not latching, they're not getting any rest because Evie feeds every couple of hours. SO, my plan is to express for all feeds bar a couple each day (I'll probably pop her on the boob 2 or 3 times a day, but express for all other feeds til her tongue is clipped and our thrush has gone to give my nips a break).

Then, if all goes to plan, I might be able to breastfeed normally as from next weekend!! :cheer:

Do you think it's going to work?! Fingers crossed!! xxx

Yes.. it should... I'd keep the night feeds express the rest... but be diligent in your expressing :)

i agree with squiglet - there's no reason why that shouldn't work. just let evie keep lots of skin to skin contact with you; and be prepared for the amount of time that it takes.

the end will justify the means though hon.

remember to take painkillers for your nips!

ah i just suggested this in your other thread - i think it is a great idea. Josh took to the tommee tipee closer to nature bottles and has had no trouble with nipple confusion. i also alternate between breast and bottle a few times to make sure he can latch on.

Sending very BIG hugs Dannii, you are giving your daughter everything you have, you're doing so well, very very best wishes, I'm sure all will be just fine real soon

That sounds like a good idea. Maybe try using Silverette to help to heal your nipples as quickly as possible. Also see if you can hire a double breast pump as when expressing as often as you will need it makes a huge difference to the time it takes and helps to maintain your supply better.

I had a really bad cracked nipple on one side when M was about 3w old and I expressed from that side for a week and it healed really well and has been fine since.

It is hard work but worth it.

Can you borrow a hospital standard pump from sure start or hospital lactation woman?

I managed ok with my normal one but was only doing 1 side and had far too much milk anyway

I read your posts on feeding Evie and i want to say well done for everything and all the pain you are going through to give your daughter her milk. ( kinda makes me feel a bit bad for not been able to do it........lol, because you are sooooo determined)

I hope after Evie has had her tounge clipped things get better for you both at feeding times.

Sorry i havent answered your question here.....lol :D

Thanks ladies!

Expressing is going ok. One boob has recovered a bit so I can put Evie to the breast for that one, but I can not physically allow her to go on the other boob, it's agony! It is healing, so hopefully by the weekend my nips will be ok and Evie will latch!

Sara, awww thank you!! That's really sweet  xxx
