setting a date?!

Ive been engaged for 3 years now, we cant afford it yet as we want to get married abroad.

Congratulations trix :cheer: :cheer:

I got engaged in 2002 on my 21st birthday and we planned to get married August 2003, but i fell pregnant 6 weeks after we moved into our first house (well they do say new house, new baby) and our parents wanted us to marry before baby was born, but we agreed that wasn't important so we waited until our son was born. It was abit of a spurr of the moment decision that we married when we did. We were booked to go to Florida in November 2004 (when our son was 10months old) so we decided to organise our wedding for while we were there. It was fab as the whole event including my dress, rings, photos, dvd and limo all cost under £2000! It miffed alot of family as we did it without them, but hey it was our day not theirs! Still so pleased with the way we did things xxx

Weeeeeeeeeell i havent put an answer in your poll cos my case is wierd...
My OH proposed to me in August 2004, and we still dont have a date... Thing is that in Spain getting a divorce (I am married and separated) when the other part is not interested in a divorce, is costly and time consuming, so it may take us several more years to build up the economy and sort the paperwork. I knew this would be the case from the offset. For me the beauty was that he asked me and wants to marry me. I love him so much and he makes me immensely happy. Who knows, maybe we will never be able to marry, but i know he would marry me if we could, and that makes me feel special

Hmmm Spanish Paperwork is what held us up. DH proposed on the 1st of May exactly 2 years after we first met :) And we decided to get married on 31st of October. But there was an issue with MY paperwork from the consulate  even though I'd never been married and it meant that we couldn't get married until the 2nd of December, 7 months later. :D

With all the stress and money and hassle involved with preparing a wedding we knew if we didn't go it asap, being gemini's we'd never get round to it..

Didn't really set a date it just sort of happened! Prob says alot about me & hubby (both far to laid back)
Got engaged in Sept 05, married in July 06! Was the best day EVER! :D We didn't do anything till Jan 06, then I found a lovely place on the internet (up in the lakes,nr where hubby proposed) to go away to for the weekend treat. It was beautiful, the most relax, idyllic, beautiful & romantic place. So we asked if they did weddings & booked it there & then. It only held 26 people (to sleep & thats all we wanted) and we had it for the full weekend, with just the people that matter! Both hubby & I didn't want the Big DO inviting people we don't even see. So it was fate! It wasn't planned it just happened.
The rest of the wedding planning follow a similar theme, the lady who owned the place said I was the most relaxed bride she had ever come across
I booked the register & that was most of the work done, as it was all at the venue!
I picked my dress in 10min, again just went to the right shop by luck, and just knew (plus it was in the sale!) Ordered the wedding meal by telling the lady (who is an amazing cook, we already discovered that!) I trust you, me & dh love all food, see whats in season / looks good & go for it.
The only thing I dropped a clanger with was the cake!! I didn't know proper fruit wedding cakes take ages to cure?! So I ended up with a chocolate :rotfl: hubby was made up with it, he a chocolate monster!
I just wish I could do it every year it was great

I love the sound of your wedding too trix, i'm a hippy at heart & bare feet in the sand somewhere exotic with an ickle dress & a big fresh flower plopped in my hair was what I fancied first but FIL couldn't fly.
Just make sure you do what you want, & stuff everyone else, its your day :cheer: x

We got engaged on leap year day 2004 (I asked him, he had been hinting at it for ages! I took him for a 'day out' to a castle in cornwall overlooking the sea and asked him there :) ) We originally planned to get married on leap year day 2008, but before we knew it it was 2007 and we hadn't booked anything, and I was pregnant!
We did consider doing a quicky register office job with just witnesses with about a month to spare, but OH parents said his family would be upset if they weren't invited so it didn't happen.

We then decided to get married in the summer instead, but then after Logan was born we were too busy and tired to put it into action so we decided to move it again to June 7th 2009!

It's now all going ahead with the venue and registrar booked and the deposit paid :D

I hope you have fun planning your wedding, congrats again on your engagement! :cheer:

We booked our wedding for just over a year after we got engaged. The whole thing was booked and paid for 3 weeks after i said yes lol.

Yip we set a date right away.

2 years from when he asked me - 28th Aug 2010

But that date wasn't available for the venue we wanted so we changed it to 4th July 2010 :D

we have been togther since early 2001 - engaged since late 2002 - and we are only just getting married.

we where planning to get married on the 11th may this year, but both my brother and one of adams brothers are at uni and their final and first year exams fall in may. It was just easier to change it to july so we knew they could both come!
