Seriously, how bad is labour & birth?

I would like to ask anybody too about the pelvic floor ecercises. I got told not to do them as it doesnt make your "flower" as relaxed because theres muscle there?? is this true? and does anybody recommend me to start doing them now?

Another thing i would like to ask is you all have thies beautiful little timelines and little picture box's saying how far gone yous all are. . i am just wondering how i can get one of thies myself??

Thanks alot again for all your help i look faward to checking everybodys advice and opinions everyday xx

theres a ticker testing area at the top of the forum, you might find instructions up there too :flower:

I,d defo go with a water birth if you can it was brill. As for the pelvic floor exercises, having strong pelvic floor muscles will help get the baby out easier and quicker AND your less likly to tear, so get at it!!.:)

And for your sig make sure you use the bb code, not html one.

Mine wasn't particularly bad, I was perfectly fine and happy with paracetamol for most of it and I had a long first stage that went on for over 15h. I didn't feel like I needed gas and air until it was almost time to deliver the baby. I had a small 1st degree tear that I did feel but it wasn't horrendously painful or anything more like a fissure you might get if your very constipated (sorry for the TMI!) The main feeling that I remember is that labour and delivery is very very hard work and very tiring. I felt like I'd run a marathon :)

Don't let anyone scare you, your labour will almost certainly be completely different from theirs and if anything you can always have an epidural and feel nothing (though I'm glad I did feel when I delivered my daughter, it makes her more mine somehow - weird but true!)

U will b fine Hun !! In tri 3 there is my birth story for my 3rd it's called the birth story of Rhea Grace hope it helps Hun. Just remember this is what u body Is designed for and there is also drugs available to help !! Xxx

The problem with labour is you only really get to hear the horror stories people don't tend to talk about the positive experiences! Mine was absolutely fine, spent half of it in the bath in the hospital with aromatherapy oils, gas & air and nice relaxing music. If you can request a room with a bath do so! You'll find that you tend to go on auto pilot and get in the "zone" with things really, I remember before having Grace I was terrified from watching programmes like one born every minute but those girls are so over the top. Just think if it was that bad people wouldn't go on to have 2 or 3 more children. Try not to worry hon you will be fine and it's all worth it when you meet your little one x x

I am looking forward to sitting through a 5 hour tattoo tomorrow much much less than i am looking forward to going through labour again!

I quite enjoyed labour!

Yes i am most definatly going to request a water birth, if i tear i might not feel it as much either (hopefully)
and one born did look hurrendous i must say!! i think if i take in all your advice then when the time gets nearer i will be alot more calmer and reaxed i know i dont know whats going to happen as each and every birth is differant but i pray to god each night that i dont need anything or anybody to interviene (forceps) for example =S and has anybody had an epidural before, if you have could you please let me know how it went as people have advised me against this!

also another silly question but how do i do the pelvic floors??

x

The best way to start is next time you go for a wee, stop it mid flow. That will tell you what muscles to use and what it should feel like. You know your doing right when you stop the flow. Then you just do 3 or 4 repetitions( not on the toilet) and hold for a few secs, gradually building up, my midwife told me to aim for about 10 and hold for 10 secs.

If you're worried about tearing... Honestly try not to! After Cesca was born the midwife said she just wanted to check me over ya know in case I'd torn... I was convinced I'd be fine. Wasn't even slightly sore and didn't feel anything when she was born (pain wise down there) just relief! I had gas and air and one shot of pethidine, and that was only to help with the contractions... TBH for me the worst bits were the contractions and the first few weeks after giving birth. Actually giving birth was fine!! lol And I was on my back... Just try and stay calm, BREATHE, and listen to the midwives! Remember... It is what you were made to do :) xx

You sound you had a really lucky birth then!! I am just going to have a little read, thanks alot i think i am just thinking of the worst like most mums to be but i am sure i will be fine. I just havnt got a good pain threshold at all and winge over the slightest thing (as yous may have guessed!) haha but i am sure i will be fine. Like i say i think i will try and have a water birth to try and sooth wotevers going on down there and i will be trying that nata nypnosis! Thanks again xx

It wasnt too bad... Although I did actually tear pretty badly xx

Mine was terrifying to me but that's because I was so scared and nervous it mad things so much worse, the epidural I had many that I was stationary for 10 hours which slowed things down and put baby into distress with each contraction. If I'm ever lucky enough to be in labour again ill be doing things so much differently this time and will be mentally prepared I think this is the key XXX massive Congrats on your pregnancy and best of luck for the months to cone XXX

Hun, don't worry and fret about labour. What will be, will be. I was the same as though you, it's natural to think about it alot. My worst fears came true in my labour, I won't tell you my labour story coz there were alot of underlying factors why the labour went the way it did.

Once you're in labour though, you just get on with it and you focus on getting your LO into your arms, and once they are OMG it's bliss

I would def recommend you to do pelvic floor... It helps during labour and also helps you to recover after labour faster! (and it's good for sex as well ;) )

Longer the better i found, my first one was 15 hours and loved it with just gas and air, second baby 3 hours and it was awful, so all different dont worry u'll be fine xx
