I went to see a specialist at epsom hospital last week and they have said they want me to have some tests done before they start me on Clomid. I have to have blood tests, ultrasound, the dye xray test and the OH has to give in a sperm sample. I have an ultrasound booked for next tuesday and wanted to know what to expect - how do they do the test? im a bit nervous :S

any advice help would be appreciated x

The ultrasound will very likely be internal so you need an empty bladder.

You walk in and they leave the room while you get undressed below the waist behind a curtain and then you get onto the bed and wait. There should be blanket there to cover up your lower half so you don't feel so exposed.

They come back and tell you to bend your knees and past your legs and they get a long thin stick and cover it in gel and put a condom over it (for hygiene) and more gel and then insert it and start moving it around inside while looking at the screen.

Then they take it out, you get up with the blanket and go back behind the curtain.

They should give you some tissue to wipe the gel from yourself and you get dressed :)

They really don't see much of your private area except for the brief moment they insert the scanner.

Just to add to Louise's post - it doesn't hurt at all, I was worried it would be really uncomfortable but it's not too bad, the worst bit is when it's moved around inside you to check ovaries etc but it's no more than pressure that you feel. Good luck hun you will be fine.
I also have got my HSG x-ray next Friday so will be able to report back on how the HSG is for you

Well, about half of mine have hurt a little. She kind of had it pressed against my cervix and that was sore - nothing you can't breath through though.

I have had a HSG not that long ago either. Its just like a smear test really, they insert a very thin so thin little tube into your cervix & run some dye through, you can feel a little discomfort while this happens but not a great deal. They then xray you to see if the dye is in your tubes then another to see if its run through.

Onec the dye has run through they pull it out & send you to the toilet, they give you a sanitery towel because some have a little bleed afterwards ( I did ) You can experiance very mild period pains afterwards so they advice you to take iburophen. I never had period pains i was able to go home & follow a normal routine.

Took 20 minutes from start to finish & i left to go home straight after.

You will be just fine there is nothing to it hun.

The tests they will do will prob be some bloods. Progesterone, fsh, lh, & estrogen.
The ultrasound will be to check inside your uterus, check the pod area to see if there is any fluid, pod area is the section in your uterus where the embryo implants ( Like a landing place ) They will also check your ovarys have not got any cysts on & check the size & measure them & also measure any follicles if there is any there :) Dont worry about the probe cause they only put the tip in you, i have had many of these & requests these rather than the tummy scan. The tummy scan is so uncomfortable cause you have to have a full bladder where as having a internal scan you dont need to drink all that water :)

thanks for all your advice/help ladies:) x

i feel a bit more relaxed now knowing what to expect - the worst things is not knowing about something!

I WANT a baby more than any of this so what the hell ill deal with whatever tests, but i just hope they come back fine and there arent any major problems with me!!

when I went to see my gyno last week (1st appointment) she has already given me the prescription for Clomid - I was shocked at how quick she is moving with this - which is a great thing for us as we want a baby right now lol.....I take it I cant start taking Clomid until ive had all the tests done right?

Have any of you taken Clomid? is it quite successful?

Re: Internal ultrasound only:

Due to previous M/c's I've had about 12 of these internals OP and I promise it's not traumatic and doesn't hurt.

They do like to have a good nosey and it can feel slightly uncomfy when they move the "wand" to look at certain areas but it's fine!

Best of luck and try not too worry too much.

Agree, I thought it felt weird but not really uncomfortable

Plus I asked to see on the screen and she showed me all my insides which was fascinating
