Secondhand items?

Would it make you feel better if i tell you that everything i have for my baby is second hand??
the only things that my baby has brand new is two tshirts and a pack of bibs... everything else is second hand :) be proud of the fact you have proven that all this bollocks about having to spend so much on having a baby is exactley that... bollocks! Honestly some people do my nut in with their judgemental soddin attitudes! At end of day a baby doesn't know or care whether their pram is second third fourth hand or was bought from Harrods!!!!!!

ahhh i've jsut read the bit where you say they don't have kids :rotfl: they'll learn     don't let them upset you honey - be proud of your minimal carbon footprint and feel smug that you are a better person than they who ave judged ya!

oooops sozzle bout the rant  xxxx

most of my clothes are from Ebay/car boot... got some real bagains today...

5 pairs of gorgeous lil jeans £0.50p each!!

jackets.. tops, lil dungarees... loads... spent £10!!??!!

i'm proud of my bargains...

And alot of other stuff which has been handed down from my friend **haylii&mia** some really good stuff, which i'm soo thankful for..

why waste good clothes... there in them 5mins..!!?! xx

Most of our stuff is ebay bought. I honestly can't see the point in buying things new that LO is only going to be in for mere months

Okay what have I brought new...............

A £30 pram......from argos. And that was because everyone elses that was 2nd hand was more expencive than that anyway.

AND...................

That is it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously! So far I have spent a grand total of £100 and I have everything I need for a newborn and LOADS of clothes that includes a moses basket and stand, car seat (upto 3 years), Breast pump(Advent) car boot brand new for £5 ), Sterilizer, blankets, sheets, bibs, toys EVERYTHING I will need to get a cot when she is bigger but there is no huge rush she has to get here first. Its stupid babys hardly are in anything for long and what they are in gets covered in sick, poo or dribble anyway. Great if you can afford to have something brand new all the time but the reality is that unless your a millionaire then nobody can. Live within your means....your not the one that will be in debt because you "had" to buy everything new they will be.

So what about when ppl reuse items for second babies?? Gwadandbennet!!!

The only things they say not to buy are:

Carseats: More for safety as you don't know if they have been in accident and been reupholstered
Cot/Moses matress's can't remember why

Ignore them their idiots...

my moses basket (inc stand) & bouncing chair are second hand, probably gonna buy a new mattress for the moses basket. i see no problem with it whatsoever, if it's in good condition it probably hasn't been used all that much anyway!

Thanks everyone.. you've made me feel loads better.. you are right they are damn right idiots, once they are on the property ladder(be it only a 1 bed house) paying a mortgage, trying to save incase we ever get married and saving for the future for our baby THEN they can comment. I have a feeling one of the girls that commented has had a LOT of handouts from the parents, im not saying theres anything wrong with that but at least me and my OH can say we are doing our damn hardest to do this on our own..

Off on holiday today to Devon for a relaxing break so catch up with you all when i get back..Im sure there will be a few more babies born by then!!

i might get some bad responses for this but i don't want second hand clothes for my baby, i dont know why, but me and OH both feel like we wouldnt feel comfy putting our baby in second hand clothes when we wouldnt dress ourselves in second hand clothes!!

we are not snobs its just how we feel BUT i would buy second hand things for my baby, just not clothes, that's just my choice but i wouldnt ever put people down or whatever for buying/having second hand clothes!

Please dont think im a snob, or being a horrible cow - that's just my preference but i have nothing against people who use second hand clothes - there is nothing wrong with it!

(hides away now!!)

What a stupid thing to say. To be honest your wasting your money half the time buying new toys as quite often they show such a lack of interest. Most of my daughters toys are from car boots or charity shops and we have saved a fortune doing it that way. Some toys you buy them they just look at once then turn their backs on.

What a load of tosh! SOme people really should have their mouths sewn up to stop them spouting stupid stuff like this! Some of the stuff I got for Lucy was bought, some second hand. For this baby there is very little that I'm buying new as I already have loads from before! There's not a chance I'm going to go and buy everything from scratch again - it'd be a waste!

There are some things I'm getting new for this baby specifically because there isn't much to buy but I'll be buying second hand too if I can .

Lets face it, babies don't know or care whether something was brand new specifically for them and it's not as if they're going to turn round and thank you for it when they're grown up!

Hun thats your own choice! Your not saying to anyone "you should do this or shouldnt do that lol" No one thinks your horrible or a snob!!

Course no-one thinks bad of you - you're entitled to your opinion!! It's when people shove that opinion down other's throats that I get annoyed with!! We're all entitled to choose our own way without being judged by others!

Have a lovely time in Devon hun! Hope you and your OH have a relaxing time before your LO arrives

xx

What!!!

I made the mistake of wasting a fortune on my first one & have leaned this time.

Apart from the essentials like bottles, sheets, blankets etc... I have got everything from ebay.
Most things you would never guess they were second hand.
I am not rich and could no way afford to get everthing brand new even if I wanted to.
Noone has the right to make you feel like this and I beg you not to.

If my camera was working I would show you some examples of what I have got.

I got a beautiful winnie the pooh cot for £40 and it looks brand new.
I also got my moses basket which I adore second hand.

Enjoy your pregnancy hun and carry on looking for bargains.

All the best.

Ignore them. It is too flippin expensive to buy everything brand new! Our pram and cot are brand new but if it wasn't for our parents who bought us them we wouldn't have been able to afford the things we got. I also bought a few second hand toys and some clothes from the charity shop. They were clean and barely used but I still gave them a good scrubbing when I got home. Nothing wrong with second hand!

I'm the same but I know everyone has different opinions on it.

I'll buy all new stuff for the baby beacuse it's my first and I am a bit too stupid to know any better  I think I might as well while I can but if I have any more kids, I'd probably just use what I did with the first one.

Nowt wrong with buying used stuff though if that's what you want to do. If you're OK with what you're doing then stuff anyone else. People think it's open season to comment on your choices when it comes to pregnancy and babies - nobody is right, they're just nosey! :D

Yes its totally understanable that you want all things new with your first and most peolple do (I did).
Its only genrally after that you realise just how short a time they last as they grow so quick.
Thats why you can get second hand things in such good condition because they are hardly used.

Either way its great fun shopping for baby things.

Enjoy everyone.
