I want to get my son a book explaining about what is in mummys tummy and how much we will still love him when the new baby comes. He's only a bubba himself (18months) so don't need full graphic details just want to prepare him a bit for his new sister's arrival in July. Any recommendations would be most welcome, I will prob have to order online as bookstores are few and far between over here. Many thanks :)

Hi! I always get my books from Amazon, huge choice and they have an online marketplace so you can get it from another supplier, most of which are really cheap.

Good luck!

I dont know about any good books but I can give you a few tips as my eldest was about the same age when I got pregnant again (its a fab age gap by the way!)

I used to call the baby "your new baby sister" when I talked to her about the baby, which I did often, making her feel that it was as much her baby as ours. I also let her listen to the heartbeat and feel the baby moving. She seemed to understand pretty well that there was a baby in there lol.

Also, once the baby was born, I made sure that my eldest was the first one after me to hold her (with the aid of lots of cushions and daddy supporting her arms) and I got her a present from the baby so she didnt feel left out.

There were many times when I would be feeding baby and my eldest wanted to be on me aswell, and other than pushing her away I let her pretend to be a baby (its what she wanted to do lol) and lie on me too, she used to stroke the babies cheek and make those early sucking noises, it was sooo cute and I felt like it was really important for her to be involved in the bonding process with the new baby.

I hope ive helped some, if theres anything else just ask!

hi there and congrats.....Well i can not say that i have tried anything other than tell them mummies having another baby, and let them know that they are still and always will be my babies......I let them help when they want and things always go fine........We never really get any jealousy, but they do try to help when they cant, then its back to explanations........I have 8, number 9 on its way..........Just remeber it is easier to let them help and not ousted.....  :o

i have found a couple of books on amazon, can't remember the first one's title but the other one is 'I'm a big brother'. Should receive them soon, I hope they will be suitable for him and help him to understand. He doesn't get it that there's a baby in my tummy, he thinks everyone including himself has one in there which is quite sweet! I am quite worried about how he will cope as he's always been my little baby, and I am sort of feeling guilty about it which I know is really stupid. :(
He hates me holding other babies, goes completely mental, so I must try and get this cracked in the next 4.5 months!
Thanks for your help and suggestions

I'm glad you raised this post - I am in a similar situation - my DD will be 22 months when her baby brother/sister will be born. I've been wondering myself how to prepare her for it.
