My 26 month old is currently teething and to be honest I am really struggling to cope with him during this stressful time for him. He is in a lot of pain.

I am certain the teething has resulted in his very very sore bum which has subsequently made him constipated and given him a sore tummy. He literally screams and screams when trying to pass a stool and it is extremely upsetting - that's not to mention the screams we get with each nappy change. It is horrendous for him. I've been trying to crack on for the past few days - putting on a brave face, but there are only so many screams I can bare before I feel like breaking down myself. It's horrible seeing him in such a state.

To top it off, he has a sore throat which last night developed into croup. So he wakes up at night screaming because his tummy and bum is sore from trying to pass a stool... and the crying then turns into a barking cough which obviously upsets him more. I'm pretty sure the sore throat is down to teething too.

Obviously all of this makes him a very grouchy and irritable boy during the day and hugely unsettled at night. I'm exhausted and very pregnant now. To make it worse, none of the teeth have cut through yet, he's just sucking on his fingers all day long.

Has anyone else had horrendous problems with the second molars?

I could cry. My poor boy deserves his tears and irritability, but mummy is struggling to be brave too!! :-(

Sorry your going through a rough patch at the moment. Olly only has 7 front teeth, not a whiff of any others yet but those were bad enough.

You may be better sticking with nurofen for the pain and heading to the pharmacy for something to help him go to the toilet. Has anbesol worked for you in the past? I always use Ashton's and parsons powders and nurofen when we hit a tough patch.
Poor you, you must be exhausted too. Have you anyone who could entertain him while you rest up ?

Big hugs

Xxx

Yes, luckily I have my mum nearby and my OH works from home. I just don't want to take advantage of my mum too much.

I have gone to the doctors with him who have prescribed a paediatric laxative but we're still waiting for that to work. He's had constipation problems for a good couple of months but with the sore bum and with months of trying to resolve it through his diet and fluids - I gave in and got him to the doctors. I asked them to look at his throat whilst there but he refused to open up.

He is on Calpol four times a day... not sure how it works with Nurofen too?

I might take him back to the doctors (see how tonight goes). Every time he has had croup i've been told to persist in Calpol, and two weeks later he gets a fever and ends up on antibiotics that work a treat. I just want to skip the two weeks of Calpol - but then how much will it help if he is teething anyway?

Grrrrr. It's a bit of a struggle.

I feel like sending out Twitter notifications and Facebook statuses and sending out social media alerts about the fact that MY SON HAS DONE A HUGE POOP!!!! Argh. What a relief! His bum is still insanely sore though, but went back to the doctors for some stronger bum cream to sort that out.

Let's just see how tonight goes! Come on son!

I find Nurofen works a lot better than calpol (which I find is just on the shelf for the taste lol)

They say Alternate nurofen and calpol eveyr 2 hours. We did this when we had a really bad patch. Although now I find we do fine on just nurofen, I don't even bother buying calpol anymore.

Anbesol is also a life saver, powders never helped us. x

Thanks for that.

My son isn't eating now and has developed a cough. We over come the poo situation to run into another - and I'm still blaming these teeth.

Gosh, just want to not worry about him for a day!
