Okay, so now Benjaimn is at school, I went and bought him a lunchbox yesterday!
He wanted a Rory the Racing Car one, so I figured why not (even though it cost £10!!)

So, I need some ideas of what to put in it. Now I'm not sure if the school has a no peanuts/nuts policy. Now my youngest has a nut sensitivity, so Benjamin only has choc spread and peanut butter when Oliver isn't around.

I was thinking, to put in his lunchbox

His drink
Sandwich (peanut butter/choc spread (for treat) but usually cheese and/or ham)
Yoghurt
Raisens
If he doesn't have cheese on his sandwich a chunk of cheese
Crisps
Biscut for break?

Thing is, I'm reluctant to give him crisps/biscuits etc in case people think im being a bad mum for giving him 'unhealthy' things to eat.

I mean, it's not like he has these things at home every day. For lunch here he will have a sandwich and a drink, and that's about it. But with being at school full time I know he's going to be more hungry than normal.

So I really need some ideas on what I can put in his lunchbox!!!! Please please please!!!!

my sister gives them a small pot of fruit a few grapes/strawbs cut up apple peeled orange ect
xx

I dont think a packet of crisps or a sweet a day will do him any harm although id probably give him an apple or banana or raisins for break

Our school does have a ban on nut products.

It only takes one swapping session and there could be a problem

Little tuppaware containers of grapes/chunked melon always go down well :D

oh thats an idea, i could put a fruit cocktail type did in for him!!!!

thanks everyone, im making notes!!

Hmm what about dairylea dunkers or the laughing cow ones they are nice..frubes, little tupperware thing of rice/cous cous withe vegetables, Carrot or celery sticks, crackers with cheese, cut up fruit, tracker bar (more healthy than an choccie bar i guess..) snack-a-jacks? just a few for you to think about :-) :-)

kiaras 7 and shes taken pack up since she started.she did try school dinners but refused to eat them.she has a hot meal at home every night so dont mind.in her pack p i put:

a sandwich (egg mayo/tuna/cheese/ham/chicken or jam)
a pkt of crisps or a pkt of mini cheddars
a piece of fruit
a drink
a tube of yoghurt
a babybel.

our school has a healthy eating policy and your advised not to take sweets but they never bother about crisps

Hi,

I give Daisy sandwiches (they have to be different each day otherwise she moans), a piece of fruit (banana/ apple) and either a few grapes, carrot sticks or one of those school bars. Occasionally I let her have crisps or a biscuit (and I get moaned at for not giving her more of these things, ha ha).

There are quite a few things you can buy for lunchboxes these days (eg the school bars, fruit flakes, cheese dippy things etc) although they are pretty pricey!!!

Hope your LO settles in school. It's very strange at first to have them out all day, and I hate the early starts (not sure how I'm going to get out of the door with 3 of them) but it all gets easier!!

My DS loves school dinners but when he has to take packed lunch he eats more if its not sandwiches so I tend to pack pasta or rice salad (he loves pasta and pesto) crossiants with ham/cheese, hummous and chopped veg, digestives with philadelphia on, handful of mange tout, olives or a pickle, little sausages/cuts of meat/crab sticks with a dip.

Once on a trip in the winter he took a flask of soup, I suppose you could do that when it gets colder (DS loves making soup with me)

I have on special occasion let him have fruit and set a little bit of chocolate on the end for him (usually strawberrys or orange) as they are not allowed sweets/choc but the amount of kids that go with chocolate spread sandwiches is stupid so I sort of dare the school to challenge me!!

Basically finger food type stuff thats quite cheap and can be mixed and swapped so every day is different and takes me minimal time to prepare.

thanks everyone, all your idea's are helping a LOT!

I found out from the school that they get fruit at break time. usually like apples and pears and banana's and little tomatoes and cuts of cucumber etc. and best of all, it's free!

so that's break time sorted!!!

i'll have to try him with cold pasta, not sure if he will like it. he likes it hot at home, but a tuna pasta in a dish would be great for him to take to school!!!

Check with the school on frubes. My kids are not allowed them as they are too messy and are also not allowed any crisps sweets or biscuits of any type.
I always pack

a sandwich or pasta salad
Yoghurt
Babybel or other small cheese portion
fruit
drink

They also take a serperate piece of fruit for snack. I do worry they don't have enough cos they come home and have more fruit as they are hungry but they only have a really short time for lunch so they wouldn't get anything else down them.

school haven't really given us any guidelines on what we should pack in lunchboxes. they gave us a couple of receipe sheets for healthy food (healthy pizza's and pasta etc), but no do's and dont's about what to put in.

When harrison first started school on packed lunches i made the mistake of over facing him, i cramed in loads when tbh all they want to do is eat quickly and get back out and play
Now he has

Sandwich or pitta bread and dip
Cucumber/carrot sticks
Cereal bar ( school don't like chocolate bars, and in summer they melt anyway)
Orange/apple/pear ( he never eats it, always comes back home with it, but i like to put it in)
Sqeeuzy yogurt (frubes, or pouches) no spoon needed.

Isaac will be having what he has at home....

Sandwich / crackers with cheese / pitta bread or bread sticks with dip ie-hummus

Vegetable sticks ie- cucumber / cherry toms / carrots

A piece(s) of fresh fruit

Box of raisins

Yoghurt or frube

carton of juice / water / milk and or smoothie

That way it doesn't matter what he eats first and what he leaves because it is all healthy! If I put any form of chocolate or biscuits in there Ijust know he would eat them first, fill himself up and not touch the good stuff. Save treats for at home when you can decide when they have them, for example after a meal.

x

dont know if you've already thought of this but pop an ice pack or gel thing in the box with his lunch, i used to be a TA and cover lunch duty, its sooo nice for them to have a cold drink and a non warmed up lunch
