Sorry, had to laugh at that!

Anyways, I keep looking at the calander trying to work out how far on I am and today im probably gonna get told Im only 5 weeks or summit

Some places only do early scans after 8 weeks, so they can be sure of seeing something. So some hospitals may do internals prior to 8weeks to be sure of seeing something. Althouh I had an early scan at just over 7 weeks, and they did it externally.

Also they may do internals at any stage to check on position of the cord/placenta etc if they are concerned. I had an internal whilst in laour last time, cause the midwife detected the cord in the way of the cervix so they had to check if it was an obstruction.

before how many weeks is an internal scan needed ladies :?

Sorry I didn't see this before so didn't reply... I had internal scans till 8 weeks, then I had external scans. They are just a bit clearer internally when baby is small. I think after 8 weeks they tend to try external before internal.

Ok just so you can see...

Here is the letter, its headed 12-13 week scan...

Doesn't bother me whether its internal or not (could be worse I might have a prostate!), just confused!

my scan info says you dont need a full bladder either, that they will provide water if needed but should be ok without...good luck for tomorrow honey...bxox

oooooo found this thread really interesting, thanks everyone hos posted. Got mine on Thursday morning and its my first, found it very helpful.

...the internal scan thing? - why do they choose to do that instean if a 'normal' one? - wont it be slightly embarrising/hurt?

because you are well past your 8 weeks they will more than likely give you an external or transabdominal scan...internals are for early scans where its harder to see bubs....mine was uncomfortable last time, but thats because the ladies doing them were evil witches....speaking to the girls on here, they have all been fine...i am going to a different hospital because of last time....
i really wouldnt worry though honey....you will be fine and will be looked after well...bxox
