Hi Girls,

I have my 12wk scan tomorrow. I have had scans before, with a baby i lost and with this baby at 6 weeks, but i have just read that you are supposed to have a full bladder in order for the scan to be fully seen. I wasn't told that with the other scans so i'm just wondering if that is the case for the 12week scan?

Also, at my 6week scan they said i had a cyst and that they would look at it again at my next scan. She didn't really go in to much detail about it and it has played on my mind a bit since. Has anyone else had a cyst found at their scan?? Is it something to be concerned about? I know nothing about them!!

Thanks for any advice.

Dee xx

Didn't wanto to read and run because I know nothing about cysts.

I had an 8 week scan last Saturday for which I had to drink a pint of liquid (water/squash etc) 1 hour before. I believe that this is so your bladder is expended and sort of lifts up your uterus and makes it easier to see during a belly scan.

I think for a trans-vaginal (foof cam) scan they prefer an empty bladder because they have to sort of scan through the bladder to see the uterus.

You can always go with a full bladder, they'll only ask you to go for a pee if they need to use foof cam.

hi Dee, my scan is tomorrow too......mine did advise a full bladder :-( i will drink 1/2 pint- 1 pint before i go and sip water when there til i go in, i am awful with a full bladder!!!!

In regards to a cyst, these are very normal and normally form at the time of conception, called the corpus luteum. they have hormones in them that release to help maintain the pregnancy, my friend had a large cyst that bleed a lot for 2.5 weeks and she was convinced she has MC'd but didnt! all was well and she is now 30 wks.
The cysts normally disappear/shrink over time and as long as not right next to baby will not normally interfer with your pregnancy. As they said they will keep an eye on this but almost half my PG friends with babies had one. hope that helps.

Good luck tomorrow, cant wait to see your pics!!!!

Oh, that makes sense then with me having the other scans earlier on and needing the internal scan foof thingy! On my 12week scan letter it says nothing about having to have a full bladder, wouldn't you think they would tell you before hand!

Thanks for your reply NinjaKitty! xx
