Hi all - has anyone continued to run whilst pregnant? I do about 10-20 miles a week and have been running since Jan this year is it safe to continue? I know I will get to docs but it takes ages to get an appointment and there will be at least 2 weeks between finding out Im pregnant and getting an appointment. Any tips please would be much appreciated
thanks all

As long as you're not doing far more exercise than you were before you got pregnant (and obviously not doing any dangerous contact sports) it's perfectly safe. My mum was out running when she was heavily pregnant with me

Your ligaments do become looser and more stretchy to prepare for the birth while you're pregnant though, which does make you more susceptible to injury x

If you are already a runner then I would say continue for now - look at Paula Radcliffe - 10km at 7 months pregnant :) Well done to you, you just might have to drop your mileage a bit soon - runnersworld might have some info for you, I used to run before getting pregnant again but not enough to see me through the pregnancy :)

I asked my midwife about this as I do Tai Chi at home.
MW told me that it was fine as long as I didn't do any more than what I was already doing and as long I felt able. I now go to a class for Tai Chi as I thought it would be better to have a professional who could support me while pregnant to make sure I don't do anything that might end up in injuring myself and its fab. :)
