hey, my OH says someone at work recommended putting a small amount of baby rice in haydens last feed and this would make him sleep through...??
has anyone heard of this i thought you werent supposed to give anything like this till at least 3/4 months!

just thought i'd ask as OH reckons i never consider any of his ideas and i always know best! lol :rotfl:

its a old fashioned technique but I wouldnt give it to him, its way too early. It a maybe a bit early for him to sleep right through, how often does he get up. Joe is up 2-3 times which is draining me.

i also didnt think babies could have anything but milk until they are 17 weeks as there stomachs are not ready yet. but not sure about baby rice??

is hayden a bad sleeper then? bless OH he should know we r always right!! LMAO XXXX

It is definitley not recommended to EVER do this, no matter what the age. I have never done it and never will.

Even if someone did do it...there is no guarantee it would make a difference to sleep...Brody is now on 3 meals a day, with big snacks in between and he still doesn't sleep though.

I think it's something like they used to do years and years ago. Babies bodies can't deal with food prior to 17 weeks, it's really bad for their kidneys as they can only process breastmilk/formula up until this age.

Your baby will sleep through when it's ready, Ella started at about 8 weeks :)

Id never do it either hun. Haydons only a wee one, he'll sleep through when he's ready hunnie. When they are that age they wake for a reason. Charlie slpet through from about 12-14 weeks. Its a tiring age isnt it, but please dont rush it, babies really cant have more than milk that young.

thanks girls, hes a really good sleeper already..he slept until 10.00 this morning..last feed at 1am..:) i'm a happy well rested mummy today!

its not that hes a bad sleeper or that i want him to sleep through all the time or anything i know hes only just 5 weeks old and waking for night feeds is to be expected, it was just an enquiry to prove my point 8)

just that my oh was saying i dont consider anything he says..i thought he was too young for anything but milk, had to reassure myself i was right! hehe
might show him this.... :p

wow thats great how long he slept :cheer:

you dont no how lucky you are :D

lol i know..hes not always like this though. at first he would wake every 2 hours..then every 4 and now he usually wakes just once between 6-7 which is still really good i know!! its just last night he had a big feed at 1 and just didnt wake till 10..i was well shocked when i looked at the time!

its great i feel really rested :)

It's amazing how good you feel after a stretch of sleep. Well done to Hayden :cheer:

yay :cheer:
now i'm so refreshed i think i'll go for a nice walk to the shops and indulge in some retail therapy :) well i have some mothercare vouchers to spend!

She meant she would never give a baby rice in it's bottle.

I think people get too pre-occupied with babies sleeping through and try things to get them to sleep better. Babies will do it when they are ready, and if you ask many mums, their babies and even toddlers often wake in the night still. Damien sleeps from 9pm ish (not set, he just goes to sleep when he wants to but nearish this time) and will wake anywhere between 6am and 9am sometimes! But as a rule about 8am, although often wakes an hour of so before for his dummy, then straight back to sleep.

I know it is damn tiring, but babies need to set themselves a routine for sleeping, and only when they get much bigger should you worry about them not sleeping through hun  Hungry baby milk should be tried first before baby rice if he isn't sleeping well at all or never seems full, but sounds as though he is going great guns for such a young one xxx

No sorry.... she asked about adding rice to a bottle of milk..which should never be done according to HV's and MW's etc. Some people do it, or add rusk or something else to milk, but I personally don't think it's a good idea.

My mum used to do it with rusks for my brother, they didn't have hngry baby milk back then I doubt (19 years ago). Worked a treat, unsurprisingly

i showed this thread to my OH and he ate humble pie and said it was an older lady that reccomended this and that he would listen to me in future if i say something is bad for hayden..even if some interfering old boot at work told him about it!! hehe

i love this forum :)

Yeah you add a small amount of milk to it, in a bowl, and give it with a spoon.

:)
