Hi,

Im really worried & not sure what to do. Last week our son started to do tiny little coughs (not constant, once a day almost) anyway, i mentioned this to my midwife & she said it is not normal for a 3 week old baby (was 4 weeks prem) to be coughing and advised me to see my GP a.s.a.p.

Well.....I made an appointment to see GP and she said there was nothing wrong with him & that our baby was probably just clearing his airways! with this we went home feeling much better knowing he was ok.

The following night my son started bringing up LOADS of flem! there was froth constantly coming from his mouth for about an hour during which time he was screaming the house down due to discomfort I assume. At the very same time there was LOADS of white gunk coming out of his nose  I panicked so much thinking something is seriously wrong and called the maternity ward at my hospital as they said if I had any concerns to call them. The lady on the phone said it sounded like a cold.

My OH went to Tesco to see if there was anything we could give him as he was struggling to breastfeed due to the fact he couldnt breath through his nose and with a boob stuck in his mouth It was making it impossible for him to get a decent feed. With much disappointment there was nothing! The only medicine that was avaliable was for babies 2+ months!

Now our son has had the same white gunk come out of his nose again today and still struggling to feed and is constantly on my boob trying to get a decent feed. I have made ANOTHER GP appointment today but im worried i will just be told he is fine again when i know he is not

Has anybody experienced this with their baby? Or know of anyone else that has had this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

T xx

I haven't really got any advice but didn't want to read and run.

My LO brought up white froth for a couple of days after birth but i spoke to my MW about it and she said it was fine.

If your not happy after seeing your GP you could always ask for a second opinion

Willow had a cold at about 2 weeks old try buying some saline (sp) drops they should help claer the nasel passage a little try not to worry to much as it only sounds like a cold also if your baby was born by c section they tend to be a little more bunged up anyway (willow was born c sec) obviously if you are deeply concerned go to your gp but the only thing you can really use at the mo is saline drops (sp)

hope this helps a little

my LO had this at 5 weeks but it only lasted for about 4/5 days, i would take him the docs again hun and if you arent happy then ask for a second opinion, even if there is nothing they can give you they could give you advice. have you tried vic in hot water in a bowl where he sleeps to try to decongest him hun also snuffle babe is a milder versionof vic vapour rub and im sure they can have that from 4 weeks as i gave it my LO on advice from doc.

hope he is better soon

xxxxxx

Hi hun!

I do not know what is happening to your LO, but if you think I would insist on having another opinion! I had quite a bad experience with my GP, who loved to reassure, and if we were listening to him, Daniel would end up with the club foot forever! (I had to INSIST on hospital appointment, and now he is recieving treatment)

I dont know if I am answering a bit late, but I would just take him to the emergency department in hospital. They ought to check everything, and, even if he is fine, you will be reassured.

 Be firm! he is your son, and nobody knows him better then you!

Holly is exactly the same at the moment, the H/V said it was a cold and tbh as I know have it I agree! White froth, cough the works.... you know its love when you quite happily spend ages trying to coax the snot out of the nose!!!!

tiggy , leland been the same , i use a nasal apsirator on him everyday and saline drops in his nose

my mw / hv said he will be like this till at least 8 weeks after his orifinal due date !

he coughs and sneezes alot ,spec at feeding time !

someyimes his breathing is so bad at ngiht it scares me !

sorry i cant help but hope he's ok, hope the docs app went well.
