i have 2 bottles, which is enough for millie as she's 9 months old and on 3 meals a day. she has 3 or 4 bottles a day (doesnt always drink it all tho lol!) and i use cold water sterilization (just milton in a big plastic tub) and alternate the 2, when one bottle has milk in the other is being sterilized.

not sure if its the milton, or simply the age of them- but the teats start to turn white-ish (they are clear avent ones) and are a bit stiffer too.

is this normal, do teats have a lifespan? are u meant to replace them every so often and if so how often?

hope i dont sound really stupid, im still kinda new to bottle-feeding!

i noticed with milton, the bits and pieced from dr browns bottles feel a lot stiffer.... not sure why

I found that the tommee tippee teats turned whiter with the cold water sterilizer.

I read that teats do have a life span and will naturally deteriorate through time and will need replacing. Also that it is best not to keep the teats in sterile solution longer than the recommended time as it can damage the teats too.

I have changed to the Avent teats now and use the teat travel packs. They keep the teats sterile for up to 24 hours. It is a bit of fuss, so I'll just buy new teats regulary.

I found the Avent site quite useful.

I thought you were supposed to change them every month, can't really remember where I read that but I'm sure I did somewhere!

All the teats and dummies my mum has have gone white from the milton, we have a steam steriliser and they all look normal. But i recently read your supposed to replace dummies and teats every 6 months. I havent though.

My teats have gone slightly whiteish in the cold water steriliser... I'm not getting new ones though. She'll be moving up a size soon enough.

The companies will say replace them every month/3month/whatever...so they'll make more money out of us mugs! :rotfl:

i have to replace mine loads, as im a dumbo and wash the bottles in the dishwasher.. but i wash the sauce pan i cooked a curry in and make the teats bright yellow
