I had a section 4 weeks ago today. I was told I had dissolvable stitches, but I've still got a visible knot at one end of my scar. It feels like fishing line and I can't see it going anytime soon. How long do they take to dissolve?

I had a c-section nearly 6 weeks ago and the knot has only just started to disappear for me.

Thanks for your reply, I was starting to think they didn't use dissolvable stitches.

Yeah, I had this too. Quite a knot at one end, lasted for ages until a midwife came and cut it off!!! I wish I hadn't asked her to do it as it was sore after, should have just left it alone. They were definitely dissolvable as the others did go away. Leave it alone, is my advice!

Mine is sore now, and was bleeding the other day as it pulled through one of the stitch holes when I stretched :-/ I've got the health visitor today.

they gave me clips... and botched them to a point where some were just nipping skin, some were twisted and the mw was appauled by them! i wish id had disolvable stitches.

What are clips? I thought the options were disposable stitches or stitches that you have to have removed later....

Is your scar going to be ok?

clips are like staples... literally like staples actually. the wound has healed well apparently and looks fine, it was SO red from the bad clips they thought i had an infection and had to swab it but was fine once they were out.

apparently they had an option of 3things - stitches you remove, stitches that disolve or staples.

I had dissolvable stitches in my shoulder after surgery and it was about 10 weeks before they had gone. I still have a slight lump where the knot is but I think this is probably scar tissue.

We also use dissolvable stitches at work (vets) and they don't really start to disolve until after 6 weeks. I guess it is to give the skin and tissues enough time to have healed.

Thanks. Saw health visitor yesterday and she said they will cut it after 6 week check if still there. That's in line with what you said.

No problem :) Sometimes it can irritate your newly healed skin so they just remove them as they would a normal stitch. Hope it doesn't bother you too much.
