i thought i would try this as LO doesn't normally like to eat much breakfast. I followed the instructions but when i tasted it is just v bland and doesn't taste like plum. Just wondered if this is what it should be like. Lo ate it fine so i am happy!
I remember Valentine and newmum saying they use this too :)

Hi Nikkif. Just left a post for you in the weaning thread too :)

Which one did you buy?

They are all called Plum baby but they have these three:

Four grain super porridge
Four grain super porridge with plum & banana
Four grain super porridge with apple & apricot

At the moment I have the first one and then I mix in pureed fruit. Not sure what the flavoured ones are like though.

I don't know why it is bland. I mean, the one I have is REALLY bland :rotfl: but she seems to like it with fruit and chunks of banana in it.

How do they flavour it? has it got pieces in it or is it ground to a powder?

It is but there is a plum and banana flavored one :)

My LO didn't like this because it's really bland too. I've tried several powdered cereals etc and he just doesn't get on with them so I've switched to jars of organic pre-made porridge and infact he's even eaten weetabix with mashed banana, yogurt, ready break etc, we just didn't like the powdered boxed stuff at all, he'd refuse to eat it. Switching made a big difference to us. There are heaps of organic brands out there to try not just the Plum Baby ones...give a few a go, you'll stumble upon one or two she loves I'm sure.

I don't think its a problem that its bland at all! Its stuffed with 4 x supergrains, I think its fantastic stuff and has so much goodness in it for baby, particularly compared to other baby cereals on the market.

Don't worry about what your tastebuds say, remember baby has a plain palate, they don't look for complicated and interesting tastes like us (that's not to say you shouldn't introduce them) but there's no problem with food being plain. I put homemade fruit puree (berries, pear, apple, mashed banana etc) in LOs but also give it to her plain too so she doesn't expected all savoury food to be mixed with sweet tastes (following advice read in What To Expect In The First Year book).

Hope this helps nikki,

Valentine Xxx
