Question about Dating Scan

I just received my scan date by post. I am just wondering if it is going to be a external or internal scan? and do I need a full bladder for it, there was no information on the letter?!
And will they ask me about my health history again, cos I had an abortion many years ago which I still feel really guilty about it, I try not to think about it but its hard especially now I am pregnant. Its the biggest secret of my life and I didn't tell my OH, I don't want to tell him but I am scared he will find out on the scan appt. I am so scared that I even tried to put him off coming to the scan with me but he insisted to come, I am so worried cos I know how he feel about abortion and I don't want him to judge me..

Hi Hun,

Dating scan is an external scan, and when I had mine they literally took me in and scanned my tum, then filled in a bit in my notes and sent me on my way.

If you have already had your booking in appointment with your mw (so she has already taken your helath notes etc) then there is no reason for them to take it again as all the info will be in your notes already.

Try not to worry yourself too much over it babe, you need to keep positive for baby a full bladder is recommended, drink a big bottle of water about an hour before your scan - I think this helps them get a clearer piccie

How many weeks are you? If you're more than about 7 or 8 its probably an external one so you'll need a full bladder.

As for your OH finding out about your abortion, he wont. They arent allowed to mention it unless you do. They dont even put it on your maternity notes as they understand its private so dont worry.

dating scans are usually external, and down where i live you usually have to have a full bladder, but i know some places which dont ask for a full bladder, id phone up just to make sure tho hun!!

Here its an externalas wella nd they make us drink 32 ounces ( 4 glasses of water ) 2 hours prior to exam, and finish drinking them an hour and a half before your scan. Your gonna have to pee real bad , but it will be worth it good luck for your scan
