Question about 16 wk m/w appt

Hi all,

Hope everyone is well and feeling less sicky and tired as we hit trimester 2!

I have a question about the 16 wk midwife appt, ours is on Thursday.
Does the midwife check the baby's heartbeat with a Doppler? If not can we ask her to?

I can't shake the pessimistic feeling something will go wrong and even though everything was great at 12 week scan I'd like to hear heartbeat to reassure me she (or he!) is still there 😊

Hi, some do and some won't. My mw asks if I'd like her try and find it but does say that baby at that age does have a lot of room to hide in so don't panic if she doesn't find it.

In my area they don't until over 20 weeks as they can't guarantee to find it earlier and they say it causes unnecessary worry if they can't find it.

My MW listened to HB at 16 week appointment.

It's not always very easy to find though as baby is still pretty small and has lots of wiggle room, so they don't always check for it.

She did at mine, but as above I think it really depends! If she doesn't offer then definitely ask.

She did at mine without asking but she warned me that it can be difficult to find. I'm sure everything's fine but good luck!

Mine wouldn't check until 25 weeks!! I didn't mind too much as have my own doppler. Definitely worth asking though xx

The midwife did at my 16 week appt but it took ages to find... she said don't panic as it's normal to take awhile to find at this stage as baby's tiny and all tucked up, but i still panicked until she found it! So be warned if she does that it might take ages xx

Was done at mine too, didn't take too long to find luckily and she let me record it which was nice

Definitely ask, no harm is asking xx
