Hi ladies, ive just had my results back and although it said low risk it was 1 in 500. That is quite a lot higher than my 1st pregnancy 2 years ago as that was 1 in 3000. :? Does that mean that this baby has more chance of having downs syndrome. Also if a baby did would something be spotted at the 20 week scan or not really?

Thanks.xx

Mine was 1 in 250 and I'm 26 and this is my 2nd baby, but yes they would pick it up at the scan :)

Don't worry it's a good score

the basic risk quotient goes on age so its only logical that your risk goes up the older you get... my risk with Tia at 19 years old was 1 in 10000 ... 8 years later it was 1 in every 1000.

its highly unlikely that your baby has Downs as most chromosomal disorders come with a whole host of other problems (kidneys, heart, lungs, stomach, general growth, movement etc) that it would be unlikely for the docs to let it slip unnoticed on the scans or for them not to say that there is a problem that needs further investigation.

If my maths is correct 1 in 500 means your baby has a 99.8% likelyhood of not having downs - which sounds low risk to me.

I turned down the tests because I knew I wouldn't so anything with the results and the midwife said that if there was a problem it would be noticed at my scan anyway. Whch makes you wonder why they offer the blood tests

dont worry about it hun. if they thought it was high risk theyd offer amnio. if ur really concerned perhaps u can request one anyway? but the risk of m/c i dont think is worth it.

I wouldn't be worried either - I'm sure everything is ok

I didn't have the test as I figured that anything would be picked up at the 20 week scan and my decision wouldn't have changed ;)

Thanks ladies your replies really helped :D , im sure that all is well. (fingers crossed)
