Im going to see a couple of nurseries soon for Charlie and Tom, can any one give me a few questions to ask that I might not have thought of? What shall I look out for? Any tips?

look at the children see if there happy and comfortable with all the staff etc

we went to see two on friday, in the second one one boy had another in a head lock and was hitting him (they were about 2 years old), we left the room before i saw waht they did to sort out the situation. I wish i had asked now what their policy is to deal with situations like that.

Also take your Lo with you if you can, watch how the staff interact with them.

Check staff turnover rates.
food what do they serve and why
age range of classes, one we saw had age range of 0 to 18 months for their youngest, they second had 0 to 11 months and then 12 to 18 months.

those are the things that stood out to me.

I would ask them about routines etc. and how flexible they are. Lucy's nursery has always said that their priority is to work around the child and their own routines etc rather than forcing them to adapt to a strict nursery routine.

Also, you want to see the staff who will be looking after your LO and the room where your Lo will be. Lucy's nursery has 3 main rooms just for the 3-18 month olds. One room is for the pre-walkers, the other is for the ones who are just learning to charge about on their feet and the other has a few cots for nap times.

Also ask how they would handle introducing your LO to the nursery, we had a few build up sessions where we started off leaving her for an hour then over a snack time then a nap time till we were all confident.
