I just wanted to know if any of your babies have this problem that Finley has. When he fills his nappy he cries a lot as though he is in pain. I know he may have a bit of tummy ache but he cries like this every time and it is quite distressing. I'd love to know if anybody knows why he does this. Thanks :D

does he kick his legs alot when he does it?

I dont know why! But my little one does similar. Not every time though, seems to only be once a day in the morning!

He goes bright red and grunts with it. Its distressing to watch, but the relief on his face after is so funny.

He doesn't seem in pain though. Have u spoke to HV bout it?

i mentioned the same thing to my HV and she said babies let the world know they are pooing!

she said to give her some water to stop constapation (sp). alice gets very farty a few mins before she needs a poop.

Saying that she has been 5 times today. i think its her cold clearing her out. :puke:

Connor is exactly the same - he f*arts like a racehorse most of the time anyway and when he's doing a poo he grunts and moans away.

He doesnt' seem to be in pain and he's certainly not constipated! I think it's normal for babies to strain while they are dirtying their nappy so don't worry! At least it gives you time to barter with the other half as to who gets to change it!!

Connor insists on doing a poo while I'm trying to give him his 4am bottle so it takes AGES as I have to keep stopping feeding him for him to go "nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn".......!!!

Katie is fine when she is filling her nappy, however, she always cries while I change her. She goes red and gets into a state. I feel awful becasue I can't comfort her and change her nappy/dress her at the same time and it can take a while to do the job. Does anyone have any tips on how she might be comforted?

Thanks. I think it must be normal by the sounds of what you all say. Fin tends to stretch his legs out more then bend his knees up when he is filling his nappy. He has his check up this week so will ask about it.

ella used to get consitipated a bit and it hurt her, she cried so much it made me cry

mermaid this could have been my post!!

Luke has started to do this now and i feel terrible, he cries like anything and looks so distressed, I don't think he's constipated as his poo is soft and not hard but he goes purple like a plum and looks with these pleading eyes as if to say "help me"

pleased to know its not just us its happening to!!

It is definitely normal but Leorah used to really cry and there was no doubt that she was in a lot of pain and it turned out sher had an intolerance to the proteins in my milk BUT there were lots of other symptons going on too. I read a lot about it and its very common that babies cry when pooing, especially while young and its actually more to do with the effort than them being in pain. If he had a real problem then you would definitely know it :)

Thanks Skatty, that makes me feel so much better thinking it is the effort he is putting into it. I hate to think he is in pain poor little man. Don't us mummies worry about every little thing lol. :D

alice was exactly the same! i started off with OH distracting her, whilst i quickly got her dressed. now i make a game of it (its easier now she is noticing things). stuff like, "where does your socks go? no not on your ears!" keeping her distracted and playing whilst getting her dressed. i must sound like a right fruitcake!! :rotfl:

also i was getting so stressed out at the whole thing, that when i took some deep breaths and calmed myself down, alice seemed to calm down as well.

You are right - they go in their mouths. At least, Ellie is convinced that is where her sock belongs. She has a great game of pulling her sock off and stuffing it in her mouth.

That's the problem. Katie is only two weeks old and isn't noticing things yet. I feel so bad for her getting hysterical like that. Sometimes she seems to calm at hearing my voice, but sometimes not. It's strange how sometimes she can seem quite peaceful and then suddenly scream as if she's noticed what I'm doing.

She keeps her socks on though, but likes her hands, so the mittens are always off.

lol. bless her!

she will get used to it! she has spent her life up to now naked. got to be a shock!
